Assists

Is the body com and unconscious person assist workable? Are there any testimonials. I have tried but the repetition made me sleepy so I stopped although body com was more about getting in touch with the person and using therapeutic soothing touch and voice I guess. I was willing to try anything to be honest to help a sick person recently but I suddenly was worried I was inducing a trance in myself ...and the person even though they were sedated I was still worried. Body com I feel is relaxing but then so is foot reflexology which I used instead.

Why do you keep asking questions about the tech being workable? Haven't you figured-out yet that most people here want nothing to do with scientology? All you are doing is generating more negative postings. Maybe that is your purpose here?

To answer your question - there are many more workable therapies than scientology assists/purif/anything else so try looking on the internet for them.

One part of the unconscious person assist that interested me was the idea of clasping the hand of the unconscious person and instructing them to answer yes/no questions with either one squeeze or two. If workable, that seems immensely useful. But I never got to try it out.

Has anyone here?

-----

From memory the unconscious person assist is something like "You lie that body on that bed ... thank you." For hours. That would seem difficult to judge as to effectiveness, since if the person remains comatose then "it didn't work" and if they wake up it's hard to assign the cause.

I always thought it was scientology doctrine that you kept your gob shut around an unconscious person lest what you say becomes part of the engram etc.

I think things like this and "Taking a walk" were more about attention redirection. On hard TRs your butt can get very painful from sitting without moving for hours but you can learn to go full Ganzfeld and control the pain without any of this touching or commands.

Well what ive worked out is that some things are ok and do help but its so mixed up with stuff that leads you astray, controls thought and separates you from the rest of the world that its hard to like any of it. Im trying to be rational as im newly out and finding my feet and where it's comfortable to stand. I have Scientologists all around me extolling the wonders so Im here on esmb to stay grounded

That is actually a pretty good assessment. It starts to look like Hubbard threw a bunch of stuff at the wall to see what stuck and then piled on a bunch of garbage to round out the marketing portfolio (trap) but that doesn't explain how things went so dark side. Philosophically I think Hubbard was fundamentally a Theosophist and OTO adherent which teaches amorality and because he was a malignant narcissist his policies and organizational management were based on the authoritarian philosophy of Legalism by Shang Yang and Han Feizi who I suspect he became familiar with through his father or his own military background.

Hubbard's genius was in synthesizing disparate amoral and authoritarian philosophies into something that people would volunteer for in an otherwise free society.

Your butt can get very painful from just $cientology.

That might describe Hubbard's genius. I suspect that he got that "tech" from elsewhere as well, possibly from studying the methods that past cult leaders used to control their followers.

Surely it takes a high level of skill though when selling total freedom but delivering quite the opposite, and doing so for decades.

This type of thing isn't as uncommon though as one would hope, and unfortunately, most humans seem vulnerable to it.

You'd do well to remember that pretty much all of scientology theory (or junk) was poached from all sorts of sources and little, if any of it was proven. A lot of it is subject for debate as you will see around here.

It was also founded on what is now some pretty old fashioned thinking, like Jung and Freud where much of it has been disproven as potentially harmful, simply doesn't work or really goes up the goat tracks. There is also the stuff that LRH just made up in his own head and most of us know how that went too. When I was in (the late 70s), we were told the whole Xenu story. They have now distanced themselves from it, as I'm pretty sure they've figured the average person would just say "Are you nuts?", and run far away. It was a laughable notion, but us believers lapped it up because LRH himself said it. It was nuts and so were we.

You may remember for instance, the barley formula for suckling babies? That idea is known to be harmful, but not to a scientologist.

My advice would be to just regard everything you heard or read in there as patently false and relearn your knowledge outside of the cult. It does have some truths in it, but wading through all the other stuff to get there makes it an unproductive task. Check everything you thought to be true against outside sources or modern information and then ask yourself if it is worth it.

It is easier to just move on. It does take a while to break your mindset away from it so be patient with yourself. New exes are quite prone to getting out of that cult and falling into another. So you will need to be vigilant and learning how cults work would be a good tool to have under your belt.

How have they distanced themselves from it? They have never proclaimed it publicly, although there may have been the odd slip or court-mandated admission in a limited fashion. The internet copies of Hubbard's tapes or handwritten materials they never acknowledge.

They can't walk away from the added-inapplicable-thetan trip as it's an integral part of OT2-8, and those levels are megabucks for them directly (along with the associated set-ups/sec-checks) and also part of the rationale for the no-eternity-for-you extortion.

I remember sitting in the chapel one night, maybe it was 78? IIRC, it was an audio session with no 1 twit in charge's picture on the wall, but I admit my memory is a little sketchy about the actual process then. What I d remember is his voice droning on about Xenu and the rest of that story and saying how he saw no reason to lie about it (yeah, go figure).

In more recent media releases and reports they tend to distance themselves from the story and play it down. I really don't know if it is acknowledged in the cult nowadays, but the public presentation is certainly very quiet and measured now, usually just skirting around those certain questions.

It would seem they know it is a loopy story or that it brings negative public scrutiny and keep it pretty quiet just in case. But they also got Tom Cruise and that's another story in itself......

Right! Then later every time they see a bed they feel an irresistible urge to lie in it. This leads to years of treatment for narcolepsy ....

Continued ...

Unable to hold a job, the poor guy loses his health insurance (this takes place in the US). He can't pay his rent and becomes homeless. He creeps through the night, peering in windows. Every time he sees a bed, he attempts to sneak in and lie in it. He's finally arrested and sent to the psych ward.

He's released from the psych ward and meets a cute young girl who's just read DMSMH. He tells her his story and she knows an engram must be behind it all. She says, "Has anyone ever said to you something like, 'You've made your bed and now you've got to lie in it?'" Bingo! He pops into the incident. She runs him through it a few times 'til he comes up to Tone 4 and is laughing about it.

"Wow," he says, "This scn is great stuff!" The girl takes him to the org that sold her DMSMH, but when the scngsts hear he was in the psych ward they tell him he's an illegal pc and they want nothing to do with him.

The guy becomes enraged. He rants and raves, calls them every dirty name in the book, and they forcibly escort him off the premises. Later he's told he's been declared SP. The cute young girl who audited out his assist engram sadly tells him she's got to disconnect from him.

The guy can't take it. He blows his mind, becomes homeless again, and wanders through the night looking in windows like before. Occasionally he gazes longingly at a bed in the window of a furniture store ....

In James Rollins new book Crucible, (it's fiction) he interweaves some medical science currently being researched. Communication with locked-in patients. It is a little more involved than hubbard's assist treatments.

Does having one's finger up one's behind count as a touch assist?
That would qualify a Scientologist as being part of a self help group.
Or would that count as self auditing and finger finger?

That whole self/other dichotomy is a big button for the clams.

To qualify as an assist, it would have to start like this:

Having one's finger up someone else's behind...

I still think it odd that a person is asking this group what is and what isn't workable in the tech. And this isn't the first time for this person. I suppose that it's true that it's possible that most in this group lack the confirmation bias of those still in. Of course we're only being asked our opinion. But isn't it interesting that if a bunch of people had the opinion that it worked, well, you know the rest.
