The only thing that "works" is "Taking a walk," which doesn't have any repetitive commands to put you into a trance-like, suggestible state. Taking a walk helps just about anyone who is upset or drunk to some degree. Do you really think genius Hubbard came up with that one?

I remember sitting in the chapel one night, maybe it was 78? IIRC, it was an audio session with no 1 twit in charge's picture on the wall, but I admit my memory is a little sketchy about the actual process then. What I d remember is his voice droning on about Xenu and the rest of that story and saying how he saw no reason to lie about it (yeah, go figure).

In more recent media releases and reports they tend to distance themselves from the story and play it down. I really don't know if it is acknowledged in the cult nowadays, but the public presentation is certainly very quiet and measured now, usually just skirting around those certain questions.

It would seem they know it is a loopy story or that it brings negative public scrutiny and keep it pretty quiet just in case. But they also got Tom Cruise and that's another story in itself......
I never get tired of watching David squirm when Ted brings up the DC-8s from the Xenu story at 14:00 in this 1992 interview - the last TV interview Miscavige ever did. First DM gets all uppity because he thought he had an agreement with the Nightline crew to not talk about this and then he refers to it as "garbage". Well, that must be news to all the Scientologists out there who know the Xenu story, that the official Church PR line is that it is "garbage". I want to see what happens to a public Scientologist if they tell someone that OT III is "garbage". Next he tries to equate it to other religious origin stories like the birth of Christ. Ted self-admittedly is not very well read up on the subject which is too bad because if he was he could point out that according to Hubbard all other religions and things like the birth of Christ were just past life alien implants so in effect Miscavige just equated the Xenu story with all the other fake implanted religious stuff. Then Miscavige says it isn't any part of current Scientology or what they study (Note to DM: Lying is the lowest form of create - LRH). By bringing up Xenu Ted is accused of mocking Scientology because it is like any other religion but we are supposed to believe that Scientology isn't like any other religion - it isn't supposed to be based on faith. It is a new scientific technical approach to spirituality but here Miscavige now wants it to be treated just like all the other old unworkable faith based religions. DM has no idea what tape this is from or where it came from?! I'm too sure! He personally has poured over all the OT materials released and unreleased in order to figure out how to create new OT levels but he doesn't know where Xenu or his DC-8s came from?

You just can't defend Xenu without digging yourself into a deeper and deeper hole faster and faster and looking like a delusional paranoid. Miscavige wanted to stick to his well rehearsed talking points which are crazy sounding on their own but whenever he is challenged he looks calculating, cornered, obfuscating and not at all like a big being. Basically, whenever Xenu is brought up Scientologists are forced to defend or explain why they have some superior right to be secretive and it isn't a good look on them.

This was back in 1992 before the whole world knew about Xenu. Can you imagine this interview being done now and trying to deny the Xenu story? They are trapped like rats by Hubbard. These are their most sacred confidential texts that don't exist anywhere...except the internet and South Park.

Conflicted much?

For a short time I worked in a Howard Johnson's restaurant around Boston on the graveyard shift while also working on staff at Boston Org.

Around 2 a.m. when the bars closed it was common for some drunk people to come into the restaurant looking for food and/or coffee.

One night a man came in who was very drunk and obnoxious. I did a locational on him for probably 5 - 10 minutes. Not sure if it helped him at all, but it was pretty amusing. If I had it on video probably could get a million views on YouTube.

A whole chapter in "The Problems of Work" is dedicated to taking a walk. It was required reading on about 3 course check sheets I had to do on staff. I had occasion to review it about a year ago and it reminded me of Lobsang Rampa in The Third Eye series after about 4 or 5 books he was running out of creativity and starting rambling about how to avoid constipation by drinking more water.

I still think it odd that a person is asking this group what is and what isn't workable in the tech. And this isn't the first time for this person. I suppose that it's true that it's possible that most in this group lack the confirmation bias of those still in. Of course we're only being asked our opinion. But isn't it interesting that if a bunch of people had the opinion that it worked, well, you know the rest.
Yes its very hard when you are the only one out in your family and although not under the radar..I say its just not right for me ...while learning about the bs. I need to read some of those books about Scientology I guess...I know how I feel but I dont know enough to back this up with a good argument.

I understand that would be tough. I fortunately do not have any kin that are involved. I do have numerous friends that I still see on occasion. I don't have any advice worth much, but when I think of trying to convince my friends that what they are involved in has efficacy issues out the wazoo, I don't see any solid ground to start on. They are too busy trying to figure out how to write a success story that didn't really happen, and suffering through reg cycles because they think that they really can go free with this.

I sure would be hopeful that you can still maintain some sort of a relationship with them, I see stories of others. Mothers, fathers, children divided, some for life.

Definitely read books, I have just been out several years, and I'm still reading the basics of the books written by those who know the truth from deep on the inside.

One approach might be something like"just as I am not interested in being a lawyer(whatever) like Dad, I am not interested in Scientology. I want to be ( a whatever) and put my attention on that right now."
Of course, I am not the best one to give advice. My daughter disconnected from me 35 years ago.

True Ex-Scientologist
Continued ...

Unable to hold a job, the poor guy loses his health insurance (this takes place in the US). He can't pay his rent and becomes homeless. He creeps through the night, peering in windows. Every time he sees a bed, he attempts to sneak in and lie in it. He's finally arrested and sent to the psych ward.

He's released from the psych ward and meets a cute young girl who's just read DMSMH. He tells her his story and she knows an engram must be behind it all. She says, "Has anyone ever said to you something like, 'You've made your bed and now you've got to lie in it?'" Bingo! He pops into the incident. She runs him through it a few times 'til he comes up to Tone 4 and is laughing about it.

"Wow," he says, "This scn is great stuff!" The girl takes him to the org that sold her DMSMH, but when the scngsts hear he was in the psych ward they tell him he's an illegal pc and they want nothing to do with him.

The guy becomes enraged. He rants and raves, calls them every dirty name in the book, and they forcibly escort him off the premises. Later he's told he's been declared SP. The cute young girl who audited out his assist engram sadly tells him she's got to disconnect from him.

The guy can't take it. He blows his mind, becomes homeless again, and wanders through the night looking in windows like before. Occasionally he gazes longingly at a bed in the window of a furniture store ....
AND, then this guy becomes a poster here on ESMB!
(Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke. :D)
