Good! If your idea of fun is creating distractions than sure go ahead.

Obviously "your" is referring to me.

We know now!

.

Let's get on with discussing the ideas rather than personalities... shall we?

I think that one can discuss pretencious negative and distracting qualities inherant in a post without dragging into it aspersions about the personality of the writer.

If you are proposing here "A Fair Game", I honorably accept your invitation. :rose:

Aw, hey, not all of us are that hidebound...:D

Hidebound! Wow! What a cool word. I just had to look that one up.
I hope you don't mind if I use it.

I do think that hits the nail on the head. In scientology, many act in the most HIDEBOUND, conservative, insular and inflexible manner.

No so much different than some on the outside. Or those who have left Scientology.

Some might say they became HIDEBOUND because of Scientology, others might say they were attracted to Scientology because they were HIDEBOUND to begin with.

Thanks, of course you can use it...

I love books and words. I use a lot of antiquated phrases because my Mom bought me a lot of Edwardian era children's books when I was a kid.

2: having an inflexible or ultraconservative character

Being HIDEBOUND does manifest itself in a wide range of people, and to that effect it often causes those affected to minimize their experiences and other possibilities. Speaking specifically about Hidebound Scientologists and their religion, Scientology (granted there are exceptions to the rule), it is quite singular in promoting itself as a philosophy that will set one free of "HIDEBOUND" mentalities while in actuality it covertly uses TRANSFERENCE to transfer one's hidebound ignorance into a dangerously singular Scientology hidebound viewpoints.

As Pixie has so deeply expressed in her thread "All or Nothing", the negative effects of that conditioning are difficult to contend with and ultimately unravel. Exies appear quite capable of questioning their hidebound operators and underlying motives and training. When they do... they are cheered and applauded by their group. It's quite difficult to find a HIDEBOUND SCIENTOLOGIST who is willing to look at their inflexible beliefs about Scientology. To do so they would be judged "unethical" by their group. That's the HUGH difference between the two regarding the subject of being affected by HIDEBOUND.

A woman after my own heart, I do too.

Do you have a 3 volume Merriam Websters Dictionary as well, or a 2 volume Oxford?

I have the Oxford two volume, a Merriam Webster two volume, and three "dinky" dictionaries.

I started collecting dictionaries before I was a scientologist, and used to spend hours in "word chains" when I was in grade-school until I could understand encyclopedia articles regarding things that stumped me in school that day. It got to the point where I was correcting my teachers' spelling, word-choice, sentence structure, and conceptual understanding. In fifth grade. I was beaten frequently (they were monks and nuns) for this sort of insolence, but I think I really did have a better conceptual understanding of the materials I studied than about 85% of my teachers.

You were beaten up by nuns, too, eh? Man, those ahem SISTERS OF MERCY (bwahahaha!) sure could be assholes. Some were cool, though, but there were some real psychos in their ranks teaching little kiddies.
