Yes, thanks very much Ax. Looks much better now then it used to!

Panda, the stables/barn is — if it's still there — out of frame a bit on the right. The building you can see was, by comparison, quite habitable.

Yes, fantastic photos, Ax. I don't recall Stonelands looking anything but gloomy. It did have potential to be a wonderful place to live though. Beautiful architecture, I think 16th century. I may have that date wrong. Anyone know?

I slept in an attic room, up some narrow, winding, well-worn wooden stairs. It would have been a maid or manservant's room. It had massive oak beams, was just beneath the roof so the 'walls' sloped in and if you pushed the plaster between the beams, they bounced. Good job there were no earthquakes. I would have been crushed.

I can't imagine how the place has been heated. Would have cost a fortune to install central heating.

Thanks, Paul, the building I referenced definitely looked too comfortable to accurately fit my memories of the place.
What a cosy place the stable was in November/December! :omg:

Ooohhh harsh.... would Paul really go that far??? LOL

I won't deign to answer that.

Although, funnily enough, when I was NOTs Board I/C around 1982 I used to give the girls (NOTs auditors) back rubs, and I couldn't really avoid including Ivis. It strengthened my fingers quite a bit to get the knots out of that lump of meat.

One day I went straight from doing Ivis to Cala. It was the first time I'd got my hands on her and I mis-estimated the effort as she was really a wispy little thing. But I learned.

Nothing unethical ever occurred with the back-rubs, before anyone jumps to any conclusions. :)

LOL. Ivis remained a force to be reckoned with all through my years at Flag. I last saw her around 2004, I'd guess. I liked her.

A force indeed. I've mentioned it before... she was the only person to tell me as a naive young teenager that giving birth was easy but hurt ..."imagine shitting a grapefruit!" That was pure Ivis.

was Ivis that rather large lady who was a NOTs auditor? Dark short hair, quite tall?
I can still remember how she used to whisk her PC's off to auditing from the part between Qual and NOTS.
Large amounts of folders under her arm.
She seemed a bit stern to me.
I think she was a heavy smoker, but so was Peter Buttery, the NOTS CS at that time.
In fact I think almost everybody was a heavy smoker back then.
She was the type of person you wouldn't mess with

What happened to that very slim pretty young lady who worked in NOTS at the front?
Maybe about 18-19 yrs old maybe younger.
Long dark hair, very smart in her uniform.
I had the feeling she had grown up in $cn.

And what about those 2 sisters who were about 20 ish, one slimmer one a bit larger wirh long hair? Something like "vashty" was one of their names.
They hooked up with a couple of blokes while I was still there, maybe they got married

I remember Isla Pride and Val Osbourne too.
Val was a really lovely proper "english lady". Shame about what I read had happened to her.
God, when you think of all the staff members back then at that time.
I wonder where they all are now?
I can remember many names.

A reunion would be great, but would it happen?:eyeroll:

Nicola Raynor and Vashti Raynor. Nicola was the prettier one. Nicola married Richard Franklin and Vashti married Chris Whitham, as far as I remember.

I see there is one Vashti Whitham listed for the UK, in Crowborough (near to Saint Hill). However, it gives her age as 32-36, and the Vashti in question would be older than that now. Either that or she got married while still a toddler. I don't think even the CofS goes that far.

There are often mistakes on ages listed on the electoral roll. I expect this is the same Vashti!

I drove past Stonelands last summer. Saw the front gate. Which reminded how narrow it is and that one of the drivers scraped the Sea Org bus going through it and ended up on the RPF (must have been in the late 1970's).

Wasn't Sheila Massy-Hicks was known as Sheila Massive Hips? Though I don't remember her I do remember the name.

Does anyone know what happened to George Hanson? he used to drive post around for FLUK.

George used to be in Div 6 in London Foundation and body routed me in and evaluated my personality test. He started a heating installation business at one stage.
George and I used to take the tube at Goodge Street, he going south and me going north. I bet with him one night to see whose train would come along first. This was a little OT test. George's train came in first. He laughed saying he was more OT as he knew the train times. I though this was very funny.

He was then in External Comm at St Hill for a few years taking comm packages to and from airports and elsewhere.

Last I heard (data is over 25 years old) he was declared. I have no idea why. Probably decided to leave.

All the best,

FRHIDDEN

Thanks frhidden. I never knew George had been a body router.

Yes he blew from External comm, he had plenty of opportunity, it's a wonder he stayed in so long. He was amazingly uncontrolled drove around from Folo to the hill and London. I doubt that anyone ever questioned his activities. Now he'd probably be escorted by a guard with a cattle prod in case he decided to drive to Paris and pick up a blond hitch-hiker enroute.

Hi LLLL,

George was one very principled person. No way I ever thought he was an SP ((by any definition).

How very terrible that the trust level changed so much.

In the 1970'ies the default was trust even if HCO and the GO were there as controls. It would never have dawned on me not to trust someone in the first instance.

Quite a few years back, I remembered being sec-checked as I did not hide the fact that I accessed the Internet in any way I wanted. This sec-checking did not proof me in any way when I later (many years later) decided to quit the CofS. The reason I stayed in so long was because of the data in the Study Tapes and the expressed desire there that the CofS stay whole. That made sense until I decided I no longer was willing to deliver what the CofS was asking of me in terms of event attendance and handing over cash and submitting to sec-checking.

frhidden, I think you'll find that many declared SPs are actually quite pleasant people. For instance myself, most of the time I don't carry a chainsaw.

So even years ago they were sec checking people who used the internet, how long ago was that?
