I once thought that....Tom Cruise did the Bridge just like the rest of us.

Now, per the LRH TECH of PTS/SP - Tom Cruise is a "source of trouble" - PTS "Scources of Trouble" G!!:coolwink:

In L Ron Hubbard's PTS/SP tech - "Source of Trouble" G - stated that no one would get any special treatment or favors to receive processing to convince them Scientology works. They do not get better and end up costing the Organization way more than they are worth - something to that effect.

I guess Hubbard was correct about that piece of TECH!! In fact, that pertains to Krustie Alley and John Travolta - not exactly living the dream of OTness now, are they?

Look at all the trouble....:omg:

BTW
Having done TRs in 1999 I now wonder how many 20 year olds in the US even KNOW what an ASH Tray is with smoking banned in virtually every building (at my company one cannot even smoke on property

That's excellent (and an excellent point). One of the characteristics that is going to most help scientology sink itself is the insistence on infallability of the Source. Scientology doesn't evolve. Hence the time warp quality I feel all over the place. The 1940s slang. The Cold War military organizational structure. The 1930s-level space opera, before SF got sophisticated (hell, Stranger in a Strange Land is light years past Hubbard's level of development, and that was early 60s). The Cecil B. DeMille / Socialist Realism artwork. The 1970s-level of Amway copyrighting on the adverts. And ashtrays.

None of this will in any way appeal to a kid these days, which will cut down on the recruiting. It won't eliminate new conversions, because there are still people whose mental states and home lives are fucked up enough to ignore the warning signs, but anyone turned away is a good thing.

If only Hubtard had also used one of those car cigarette lighters as a prop, too. That would really complete the WTF for the younger generation. I don't think I've seen one in years, and kids these days think the receptacle is just a place to plug in their iPhones.

I was just in a rental car where there were "no smoking" stickers to either side of the recepatacle. Not that the lighter part was in there, anyway. Come to think of it, do any of you smokers carry your own lighter to fit in those things? I bet you could still find some in junk yards.

OK...I can't quite frame it as "I once thought that...", but it does fit.

I woke up with a bit of a head cold or allergies--not sure which. It sucks a little, but when in the cult, I'd immediately have to try to figure out what I had done that was out-ethics, or who I was PTS to (which also wouldn't have happened if I didn't have some overts), and taking an antihistamine would be a SERIOUS overt, and might wind me up back on the Purif.

Probably won't bother to go buy an antihistamine... ax I do tend to stay away from any meds because my body gets a bit weird, but setting my alarm for later and not going through any of that mental bs is awesome (oh, and if you don't spot it immediately, then you are "self-listing" and probably need a repair session for fuck's sake.....). OK, back to bed :)

^^^ 'Responsibility' is probably the concept that has been Hubbardian Mindboggeled the most.

lol. Oh yeah...that "don't ask whom the bell tolls for" thing used to play in loops in my mind.

I don't know if that's cause I figured it was true or my mind was loopy.

I once thought I was going to save the world.

I once thought we had to include the words "I once thought..." inside a post in this thread.

I've seen people in here who've been able to free themselves of such nonsense. Well done.

Squirrel! Colds are when you have a loss. First you take a year's supply of vitamin C, then find what you've lost, then have 12 and a half hours of touch assists and if it still doesn't clear up then it's PTSness. Disconnect from anyone you know and you'll be fine. That usually takes about a half dozen days. Colds get better in about six days anyway or if treated a week.

Oh wait! That was me.

This morning I had an epiphany while looking at Martys blog.
If I thought I was as educated as I was from doing the
SHSBC imagine how pretentious a class 12 must feel.

They are beyond doctor. They are professors. They are the
Zen Masters, the High Priests. They are beyond merely
practicing $cientology. They are its teachers.

Add to that such additional titles like "Studied under LRH"
or "Flag Trained" and it adds importance to their already stellar
accomplishment.

I can see how hard it would be to walk away from that when,
in fact, their education barely qualifies them to sell used cars
(assuming somebody else does the math for them.)

Oh dear God... EmergenC is probably not a bad product, but having downed that whenever stuff went wonky and forcing pcs to take it...for being "sessionable", or "cramable"

totally over the whole thing. Yeah, no loss. I seriously need to get a bit of sleep though. I'm actually booked to do reading tonight; something that was impossible when in cult-land.

As in I once that Admin Scales were truth, until you got yelled at that pursuing artistic things were "other fish to fry".... because if you weren't a celeb, or on the brink, you were the fodder of meetings to recruit you onto staff or get you to "wake up" and make enough dough to be a reg prospect. omg.. I wish I was joking.

The Vitamin C shit is actually crank squared, because Hubtard picked it up from Linus Pauling after Linus basically gave back his practicing scientist card, negated the prestige earned by his Nobel, and went full-on crank.

Despite good clinical evidence to the contrary, most of the lay public still believes that high dose Vitamin C has effects against colds - and that is a direct result of Pauling's very public efforts in the 1970s and 80s. Notice EmergenC is not sold as a drug under the auspices of the FDA (for which it would have to submit clinical proof of efficacy):

*These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

It is sold as a "Nutritional Supplement", a category Linus helped create (using the prestige of his Nobel with Congress) so that he could purvey his bullshit.

Not just yes, but hell yes.

Yes I do. I have friends - friends from school, friends from my professional life, who work at the Agency. Good people. MDs who took the Hippocratic Oath when they got their license. They didn't suddenly throw that out the window for a paycheck (which is often less than what they could make in private practice (FDA salaries are better than the average PCP, but lower than those of specialists).

There is the very occasional political move such as the one I mentioned above, on the policy level. It is always resented and criticised by the rank and file FDA. I have never seen it on the individual medical device or drug approval with one exception - Republican meddling in the morning after pill.

I've worked in industries that they regulate for many years, and although I have often disagreed with a reviewer over the interpretation of data or statistics, that disagreement has never made me suspect their integrity. And you can ask anyone who works in the pharma or medical device fields about the accusations that they are in the pockets of big business, and those scientists OR business people will laugh in your face. There is a HUGE amount of dyspepsia in a company when it has a project up for review.

The FDA may be a little too conservative, in fact. They are slow. But they do work to protect you. And they HATE the fact this nutraceutical shit is carved out at the legal level and ties their regulatory powers.

In addition, they have outside commentary by academic experts on every decision. Before a device or drug is approved, this panel meets in public. None of the experts can have been an investigator for a company in the area. They then provide public feedback on the merits of the proposed product, and, while the FDA can ignore that advice, if they do ignore it, they have a lot of 'splainin' to do. It is the most transparent regulatory process I know of, and I think every government regulatory body ought to have to follow that kind of open debate before proposing rules.

The FDA is the only thing preventing someone like Hubtard from practicing cons in the medical field.

Yes goals to do creative things are just GPMs, you obviously don't have the true incredible artistic genius that Hubbard had. How could you even think of wasting time you could spend in a factory earning money for your bridge.

You're right, having an ASH tray was once quite acceptable.

Like in the 1960s Golden Era of ASH tray OTs (commonly abbreviated ASHO). Why, here's a scene from the Academy Course room. Things were a little different back then.

I once thought people who complained about the smell of smoke were weird.

We smoked in crowded trains going to the Org and then all day unless we had to go to study, sometimes I woke up in the night to light up. It was normal. There was a member of public in London who has a sign round his neck asking people not to smoke as he found it restimilative, no one took any notice, it was too odd, smoking was the scientologist default setting.

Then you know next to nothing about the human body. See the "Food Pyramid" that the FDA pushes.

:duh:

Not sure what you object to about this. Is it the most up-to-date nutritional advice? No. It is bad advice? No. But the Hippocratic oath states "first, do no harm", and they are slow to change when they don't have reproducible evidence, even if trends indicate they should change. It took them a long time to get rid of the old pyramid, but if even if you followed the old one when it was promoted, you would have been spared Atkins and other travesties of dietary science.

There was a big to-do about Omega 3 fatty acids recently, and the FDA is still slow to get on that band wagon. There are some early (although somwehat muddy) indications it can be linked to prostate cancer, and high doses of fish oil have the potential to suppress immune function.

I like that: smoking was the scientologist default setting. It all seems so bizarre now. There were nasty dirty ashtrays brimming with cigarette butts all over the org. It seems nearly everyone smoked. Including me. Up to 2 packs a day. The whole scene enabled people to smoke. I wonder if hubbard had stock in the tobacco companies. Was it a conspiracy? lol

Among my many goals after escaping the cult was to quit smoking once and for all! I successful did later that year (October 14, 1985). It wasn't easy and was the hardest thing I ever did (well, maybe escaping the cult was harder). I can attest to nicotine's addictiveness.

I once thought that smoking cigarettes was safe since hubbard, the worlds biggest OT, did it.
