This is Mayor Eric Garcetti's way of showing support to the African-American community in Los Angeles. The event includes alot of the churches serving the African-American community. It's also supported by the NOI which gets a huge boost from Scientology Inc.

I can completely understand Mayor Eric Garcetti showing support for the event given its avowed purpose of remedying gang violence, and support by churches in the African-American community and the NOI.

What he may want to consider is whether he wants to provide:

the first official public recognition of The Way to Happiness and its role in producing L.A.'s historic drop in crime.

That word is not in the Hubbard dictionary so to check it, they would have to look on the internet - a high crime. Getting a name wrong is only embarrassing and insulting. These are things the Scientologist is trained to cope with. Looking on the internet, not so much.

Surely he still cares about the community even though he's no longer Police Chief.

Given the amazing drop in crime caused by TWTH with the gang activity I'm wondering why TWTH wasn't quite as effective within the LAPD itself? Surely Mr. Baca would have realized that the culture within the LA County jail was violating multiple precepts of TWTH, wouldn't he?

That won't matter to Eric Garcetti who used to be the longtime city councilman that represented the Hollywood area (where most of the Scientology properties lie) and was involved in alot of issues trying to find a balance between his constituents who are Scilons & pro-Scilons & those that aren't. I had many conversations with his chief of staff Mitch Farrell (who is now a city councilman) about the games that Scientology played to shut down protests at it's events.

The cult was not happy with Garcetti when he stepped in & ordered the LAPD to stand down on some of their tactics established to appease the cult.. as a result, the cult had to put up curtains on the street to block protesters on the sidewalks from seeing in (which was a major fail on their part).

I'm sure Garcetti will approach the event to show support for the African-American community & will be very wise not to say or do anything that could be construed as an endorsement of Scientology Inc. That doesn't mean the cult won't distort the facts to do this, however.

My advertising and marketing background got the better of me this morning, in large part because it seemed unlikely that the claims of “biggest”, “most-listened-to” (and others), were true.

As a precursor: the link to the website from Mike’s blog didn’t work for me, so I wound up Googling “United for Peace”. I found a site that was active a year ago, connected with an entity named “UpFest”. That link is http://upfest.org/united-in-peace-festival/about-upfest/. In the “About” section, there’s information on the history of the Peace Rides, as well as mention of the Nation of islam and The Way to Happiness.

ON “Gang Capital”:

Note mention of the Nation of Islam, there were over 80 biking and car clubs at the time, the agenda is parallel to that of the upcoming October 2014 event, there’s mention of TWTH (as well as other materials), and the promoters are social media and two radio stations (KJLH and Power 106).

Personally, I think it more likely that the gangs finally sorted out stable turf boundaries. A large percentage of the killings had come from inter-gang rivalry.
