I was on the freewinds 1986 1988. I also spent some time at FSO, same dates.
On the freewinds I was working on the renovation plans up until the maiden voyage which I think was summer 1988. Anyone remember me?

At the time I was married to Leslie who later became involved in the Lisa Mcpherson case (she was the HAS at that time)

    Welcome to ESMB, Lawrence.

We never met, but I'm also a Brit and was in ITO at the same time as Astra.

    Do post more. :)

    Hi Lorri,
Duane here. My wife told me you had made this post so I borrowed her log-on to reply.
Yes I remember you. I was Chief Electrician from '86 to '88, and we spent a lot of time working together. I'll PM you with my email address and we can catch up.
Good to hear from you again. Duane

    Welcome !

Lawrence, I was on the Maiden Voyage in 1988, and six months later did OT 8 there. I also was married there in 2003. In between, I was there maybe another 10 times. I think I have been in all the public spaces on the boat. On longer stays, I particularly liked the library, where I discovered Joshua Slocums book, "Sailing alone around the world".
I'm very glad you were able to get your daughters out of the SO.

Welcome and very glad to see you here. I would like to thank you and let you know how instrumental you and your childrens videos were in helping me to leave and get the rest of my family out.

I was a professional before joining the SO and many of the betrayals and broken promises that you ran into were very similar to mine. It was really incredible to listen to your story and realize just how pervasive and similar the deception is throughout the cult. When I was in the process of leaving I looked at the various anti-scn sites and boards, looking for reasoned, sensible, well-thought out criticisms of the cult. You were that for me, your calm demeanor and rational discussion of the cult was exactly what I needed to hear. I showed my wife your videos and she felt the same way and it helped get her to wake up too. It started the ball rolling and we ended up getting our kids out too. So big thanks to you, for speaking out openly
and doing so in such an un-SP like manner. That brit accent too adds a measure of respectibility. :)

I also would like to add that I knew Leslie while in and we had many conversations about the tech but not much more outside of that, (can't be wasting time discussing unimportant matters like family). She did tell me how she joined the SO, but this was a "theta" version. I also knew Matt while he was in the RPF. Outside of her mother I had no idea about any other family of hers until I was out. Of course she never discussed her involvement in the Lisa McPherson case and I had no idea what it was at the time. In case you didn't know, around the time I knew her in 2003, she was s staff auditor for CTO WUS, on her SHSBC internship as well as C/Sing the purif for LA org. I'm sorry to say she looked older than her years, I suppose the SO was really wearing her down hard. In fact, it took me quite awhile to reconcile that she could be the mother of your children. I thought there must be some other connection.

Hope to see you around here more.

    Hello Lawrence:

I can't honestly say that I recall your name. What post did you hold? Tim and I and my son were on the Freewinds in 1986. We were both in the Port Captain's office, Tim as the Legal Rep and me as Dir Info. My son Dick was in the engine room as a grunt or wiper or whatever you call them.

That was a time wasn't it? Between our SO post, our AB seaman post, studying, man overboard drills, and the midnight drills, and then for me to go to town and do research on all future ports of calls, we didn't get much sleep. I'm glad I'm out.

But I do remember what a lovely couple Captain Napier and his wife Jean were, and I do remember watching those late night movies in the lounge before the Maiden Voyage of course. And Tim and I did participate in the February Mardi Gras parade, so there are some fond memories as well.

    How about you?

Hi Lawrence. Thank you for joining us.

I also found your video of value amongst much research.

Do you still have any spies on the Freewinds to update you on asbestos, etc. ?

    Hi Kathy

I believe that I do remembe you. Certainly your name is very familiar, and Tim. We were certainly on the freewinds at the same time.

I do remember those movies before the maiden voyage, kind of fun.

I was only sort of loaned to the Freewinds to do the plans for the renovation, so I wasn't a regular crew member with a regular post. I used to deal with your office, mostly to borrow the car to go meet with suppliers on the island.

Captain Napier and Jean were a nice couple, then I think she vanished to go on the RPF. Now I believe he's married to the doctor.

Hi Lawrence, I was on the maiden voyage in the IAS office. Natascha - short with dark hair. I was already pretty uncoorperative and rebellious by then and didn't really mix with many people, it'd be one of the few times in my life I was quiet and retiring. The things I remember best were things like waking up and looking outside the porthole at a tiny Island in Bon Aire and thinking I was in paradise on afloating prison. Also the total joy of running down the side of teh ship to check the pools were emptying when we had a storm. The captain later explained to me how dangerous it was - if the ship had changed even a fraction of direction while I was taking my flynig leaps (man I must have moved about 12-15 feet on some of those rough seas!) I could have been over board no one the wiserr and let's face it they probably wouldn't have looked for me anyhow LOL!

I remember the joy of testing out the new meals the galley crew were putting together before the maiden voyage and the dancing on the back deck after post.
And also it was so cool to have a ship post as well as an org post - only they added teh 4 hour watch on top of the 15 hour day so we were a bit screwy for a while.
Best shipboard memory was learning how to take the helm. It was the most amazing feeling of having this entire vessel respond kind of like a giant train on a gown but of course a zillion times bigger. -I remember the Captain being so patient with me and then printing off my results "You made a perfect 360 Natascha - I think I might have to ask for your transfer to my org."
Of course Janet-the-queen-of-all-evil-Light wouldn't hear of it.

    What a mix.

Not sure if we crossed paths?

Can't say that I remember you, though you do sound one hell of a character.
I do remember having to do the layout for the IAS offices on C deck, when the order came down that they were transferring to the ship. Probably to get away from all the refund demands!
I was kicked off for the maiden voyage as they had no room and the renovations were finished.
I mostly hung out with the contractors brought to the ship for the remodel. We went scuba diving and visited the casinos and bars on curacao, which were fantastic.
When it got close to the maiden voyage, CMO descended on the ship to correct all the 'out-ethics'. Luckily I managed to just avoid that.
I know what you mean about the prison ship. Bonaire is a gorgeous island, I was lucky to be able to go snorkeling there, which is supposed to be the best in the Caribbean. i doubt that the regular crew were ever allowed that.
