Regarding violence in the Sea Org.
There is no doubt that there was some violence when Hubbard was in charge. There is no doubt that the violence escalated markedly with the ascendence of David Miscavige.
I wouldn't say that this violence is the direct result of "applying LRH policy", but more a case of a sick, psychopathic individual who managed to get onto the highest post in Scientology and act out his personal faults on those lines.
I am ONLY talking about the specific violence at INT Levels (where it is largely restricted too).
Hubbard and Miscavige differed in their personalities in this regard.
But, in MANY other regards they are two peas-in-a-pod, where they both work/worked very hard to get MANY specific LRH orders and policies enacted that continue the Scientology scam across the world.
The violence factor here is an ancillary component. It is not necessary or vital to continuing the charade known as Scientology. It is not directed by specific LRH policies, though it can be justified by some of it. It is . . . . a distraction.
Things like HARD SELL, demanding every penny from every parishioner, widespread forced disconnection, endless declares, hyper-control, crush-regging, lying, excessive PR, manipulative handlings, love-bombing, manipulative use of ARC, noisy investigations, overwhelming lawsuits, "always attack and never defend", and on and on, THESE THINGS are DIRECT RESULTS of understanding and applying EXACT LRH policies, Miscavige does this well, and just as any senior Scientology leader would be expected to do (per exact LRH policies and KSW).
The ONLY real difference between Hubbard and Miscavige is their personality trait of acting out violence. They were/are BOTH over-controlling manipulative scumbags. But, Miscavige had a slightly different way of dramatizing HIS bad temper.
Otherwise, they are both excellent examples of what is needed and wanted according to Hubbard's extensive body of data (OEC volumes, Management Series, N/W Orders, etc.) on Scientology management and how to expand/protect Scientology (the top goal and PURPOSE of all Scientology management).
Karen is talking about how this worm known as DM managed to take over and control all of Scientology when he was NEVER actually placed in such a position by Hubbard. There is an actual sequence of events here. It can be interesting - though it is not KEY to what makes Scientology so BAD.
I suppose things might have turned out somewhat differently if a different sort of psychopath had ascended to the helm of the scam. But, the main key components of what makes Scientology so horrible are laid out extensively and very clearly in Hubbard's policies. As long as there was ANYBODY at the top to enforce them, it would have unfolded pretty much just as it did with DM based on the unique external forces and pressures against Scientology that unfolded since about 1982 (such as the development of the Internet as the MAIN thorn in its side).
For example, if DM wasn't in power when the Internet grew up, some OTHER tyrant at the top would have initiated slimy OSA campaigns (following exact LRH policy on how to address and handle "entheta" and "enemies"). The source of the problem is NOT Miscavige. He gives it all a unique complexion, but the face of the monster is still pretty much the same.
DM is a unique dimple in the complexion of Scientology, and he makes it unique in certain MINOR ways. The MAIN facets of what makes Scientology so abusive and obnoxious would have been there though no matter WHO was in charge, as long as they duplicated and acted with ruthlessness (as directed to by Hubbard) to enact KSW and extant management policies/orders.
The pattern is clearly defined and delineated in the model set by Hubbard's writings and lectures. Since a KEY set of Scientology policies involves the idea that Hubbard's statements must be followed exactly, always, and NEVER changed, then as long as ANY leader does THAT, then the crap known as Scientology will continue along (DM or not).
Hubbard designed it all as a self-propagating "organism". And so it continues along.
Some may disagree. Oh, sure, Marty the Moron and similary-minded over-indoctrinated die-hards will disagree.
