Dear Aussies: could you please examine the list of locations in Oz and confirm/deny the correctness of the list? We really appreciate someone who lives there looking it over, commenting, correcting, whatever!

Thanks!

since the war in 1991, it is very easy to become a religion in Croatia...
it was just a try to show whole world that we are open to religions,nations....bla bla bla....
but people there just don't care....

P.S. it is Slovenia and Serbia, that are under "attack" right now....cause both countries were so "closed" in one period, that people naturally tend to find other answers...but, me thinks - it will be short story also....
in Slovenia - also big party's for Raelians, every year...dancing naked, sex, love it...
6 or 7 years ago I was there and was amazed with so much love bombing....

Austria - 2009: 4 - 2 Orgs or similar, 2 Missions. Org at Vienna 1070. Celebrity Centre at Vienna 1230. Missions at Wolfsberg 9400, Salzburg 5020. In 2010 plans to open a new mission in Linz: what happened to it? AMENDED 2013: Wolfsberg Mission not confirmed.
Austrians discriminate against what they consider to be cults or sects. The conservative UVO party refuses membership to Scientologists. At the same time Austria recognises Scientology as a religion. Estimated number of members: <100.

Austria 2013: 1 Org at Vienna 1070, 1 Celebrity Centre at Vienna 1230, 1 Mission in 5020 Salzburg
Wolfsberg Mission is a "couple with dog" almost non-existent.
Front group called Scio.at in Vienna 1230. Opening-times: 2 1/2 hours per week ...
Linz? Never heard that before!
Scientology is NOT recognized as a religion in Austria
Estimated number of members: <300.

It doesn't seem that religious recognition means very much in several of the countries listed. Croatia may recognise Cos as a 'church' but apparently has lost its solitary mission in Zagreb. Austria recognises CoS as a religion but discriminates against Scientologists socially as members of a 'sect'. The Australian 'church' is not given any special treatment, though its tax-exempt status is a striking anomaly in view of its anti-social activities. The American treatment of Scientology is also a striking anomaly.

But in Taiwan there is (apparently) collaboration with local Buddhists. They may not yet realise who they have got into bed with.

Slowly the idea is getting around the world that what is true for one country is true for all the others. 'Religion' or not.

Thank you PannonPan; great summary. No growth, numbers declining. I suspect Linz was another short-lived couple with dog, if it ever got off the ground. New converts seem to believe that they can make a living by running a mission but missions are dropping off their twigs in numbers.

My other info about numbers of Scientologists in Austria is 'less than 400' but less than 300 is more recent.

I read that they were discriminated against at a social/political level as a cult/sect but it is clear now that they have no special religious status. Good.

This is the updated entry.

I see that CNN said (July 2012):

Yet, on the CoS'es own website it says (in an article posted Jan, 2011):

That's a discrepancy of 1000 churches, missions and groups! :omg:

EDIT: I found another yet another CoS website that uses a figure of 6000!

:faceslap:
No way there could even be 1,000 total churches and missions in my opinion in the whole world. I am guessing that groups includes any two people who might just happen to be coauditing at home, or six or eight people who co-audit for awhile at an off-site location and then play cards. What a joke! No way could they have any idea how many "groups" there might be.

I agree! Addresses of Missions have been homes (in a couple cases), or some tiny office rental that's open 2 hours an evening - in many cases. They keep up the relocate/refurbish/re-grand opening shuffle which can make it a little more difficult to track.

From the CoS own information and including all the Missions which are big enough to find there are fewer than 500 Orgs and Missions world-wide. Not 6000, not 5000, something around 470.

See the list on this thread.

That sounds about right. I mean, even in the USA, I think there are probably a few states that have no Scientology presence whatsoever, at least as far as Orgs or Missions. And in most states a mission or an Org is located only in the larger cities.

I would have to think that North America and Europe have well over half of them.

in Europe, staff is usually some "citizens without proper visa"...
you know, like from ex Soviet countries,or even from LRHs Bulgravia....
or even people with visa, but who have just arrived in west Europe - and are searching for better life.
it is very easy to sell them "happiness and success in life" :coolwink:
they prolly using some kind of "religion visa", but I think - same thing is happening in US...

Scientology will no longer be a church in Hungary

A new bill regulating the operation of churches has been passed by the Hungarian Parliament. According to this law, Scientology will no longer be recognized as a religion in Hungary and it will lose this status on 1 Jan 2012. They can apply for recognition, but it has to be authorized by a 2/3 majority vote in the Hungarian Parliament. Due to the current power structure, it has zero chance of happening.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén "as long as I and KDNP (Hungarian Christian Democratic Party) are in the Parliament, Scientology won't be recognized as a religion"

[Thanks, Thrak!]
