Most all of the snipped items tell you what's bad in Scientology and (usually quite accurately) why it's bad.

In another vein, Clearbird has done a good job of accurately rewriting Hubbard's technical stuff so it's comprehensible (as much as possible with Scn). This link is the stuff up to Clear:

And if you really like shooting up the hard stuff, there's always the free 24/7 sessions from PaulsRobot. The Scn section of PaulsRobot3 is here (it's not nearly as good as most of the non-Scn stuff there):

But it won't make much sense. :)

    'Nother :welcome: Tanchi!

    Enjoy your lurking-time here!
So much to digest it may take a while to get your head around it all, but its all good in the long run and provides an excellent form of inoculation against mind-control manipulations for all sorts/varieties of culty activity, above and beyond just CoS and its various Hydra-like tentacles.
As also a 'never-in' I can appreciate the morbid fascination of understanding such abstracts, been at this for over 10 years now (oh man that makes me feel elder lololo) as a critic/observer/student-of-human-nature, and still, to this day, keep finding surprises and insights, like a never ending Easter egg hunt.
There are many, many good folks here, and they carry with them a wealth of knowledge and levels of compassion and understanding that are often hard to find these days, I am very proud to call some of them my friends as well!
It beats the shit outta twittering selfies on failbook with imaginary friends :p

Thanks to everyone. My question today is.. How much Hubbard/Dianetics/Sci.. doctrine do you think you retain? I ask because I don't believe everything in Xtian bibles, and folklore. But my indoctrination is strong, and I have always been fascinated with cults and cultic behaviour. Since I have been reading about Scientology cult, I'm feeling my foundations quiver a little.

Retain as in remember, or retain as in have assimilated and don't question?

And that second category subdivides into (simplistically) true and false.

Example: "man is basically good" is a fundamental Scn doctrine. But is it true?

  14. Tanchi

    Tanchi Patron with Honors

Mostly assimilated, but! Sometimes my little memories surprise me, eg, scripture, bible stories. (Plagiarised as they may be).

Man good.. Hmm, I think that depends on where ya from. I trust people from my neck of the woods. A different story is me in a large town, or small city, or a casino, places where I have a very low level of trust!!

Just my opinion, I think one has to try to separate out their own inherent qualities and personality quirks first because Scientology indoctrination can appeal to something that is already in your nature and amplify it. And as you age these same qualities can become more inflexible and interwoven with age related cognitive issues. I think the later in life an individual realizes they have been conned and tries to separate out these 3 factors the more difficult it can be.

Scientology basically instills a system of reasoning whereby a person categorizes problems, solutions and observations according to LRH's precepts instead of using common sense. I think the Tone Scale is extremely destructive in this regard as it teaches that people are to be classified instead of understood and it doesn't allow for maturity, experience and growth that takes time. LRH isn't the only one to push this and the idea that people can be quickly and neatly pigeon-holed is very inviting.

Scientology teaches that there is causation behind everything - or, that there should be and you should strive for control and responsibility of it. But life just isn't like that. It's random and ridiculous and you must allow for time to play it's role in revealing outcomes. Life is easier if your thinking is flexible and patient but Scientology makes your thinking rigid and tries to compress time so you stress over things that you cannot change and reach wrong conclusions because you don't allow for unpredictable consequences to unfold.

I enjoy Scio watching because it is fascinating the consistency with which LRH and everything the Church has done since is so illogical and results in consequences that are so completely opposite of what they try to achieve in spite of all their cleverness, glib truisms and assertions that they alone understand logic.

    questions about independent Sci...

Thanks for all responses!! I've been mulling them over today. Let me preface these questions by saying, 1) I type from my phone, I have pain in my wrists, so I try to be as succinct as possible. 2) I ask because I just want to know and compare, not to judge.

So enough build-up. As an Indie, or OTC, How closely do you adhere to Hubbard's scripture, practices, or advices? For instance, Fair Game policies? Hubbard wasn't the first to think of this. I'm thinking of Ferdinand and Isabella' s inquiringness, and Galileo.

And do yall go to doctors now? Still do the Purification Rundown?
Is your church or org still Anti-Psychiatry?

There are Indies here but for the most part we are not Scientologists nor practicing Scientology.

    Re: questions about independent Sci...

Ex-Scientologists are pretty much the same as ordinary folk, like the general (non-Scn) population in every respect--except for one (1):

Former Scientologists are more street smart. They have the "wisdom" of having been mugged. And thus, they are more discerning and disciplined on what neighborhoods are safe to walk through--and which to avoid at all costs.

HELPFUL TIP: Scientology is a part of any culture's ecosystem--the ghetto. In that part of town, the local heroes are the grinning pimps and street corner drug dealers hawking their feel-good Kool-Aid. These are the "winning" and "total cause" ones who made it big. Anyone can clearly see their up-stat-ness by the flash and bling they adorn themselves with.
