Scientology is creating cold and heartless people

    cold and ruthless some are

I'd given it some thought that eventually you lose the ability to express feelings after being on staff for several years. The ED in my org had it out for me from day one because I loved to laugh and express how I feel spontaneously. And I was Tip'd as part of my hats training to drill and drill and drill and drill the tone scale to the point where I could assume any position on it instantly. Soon afterward I began to view my emotions as forced and fake. It wasn't spontaneous anymore unless someone told me or I read a hilarious joke.

After I left my spontaneous self returned in about 6 months. I had no one to be afraid of anymore.

The thing that cannot be controlled are our emotions so LRH had to figure a way to get rid of them by suppression and he designed the TR's to do just that. Bull Baiting, especially. Emotions are what makes us humans and keeps us alive. Brain washing does not work on true on emotions if we allow ourselves to have them.

    Keep Laughing and Loud!

There's also the use of a very powerful technique of emotional control known as Phobia Indoctrination. It's very much based on fear and guilt. Members are instilled with irrational fears of ever leaving the group, or questioning the leader. They are taught that horrific consequences will follow if they are to leave (i.e., accidents, suicide, insanity, etc.). And those who do leave find themselves shunned and rejected by the group, often including family members. From the group perspective, there is never a legitimate reason to leave. The only possible reason is that there's is something wrong with that you. I can understand how this type of manipulation can make it difficult for people to leave.

I agree DP. There are many studies of this phenomenon, here is one of my favorites:

[Extract from "Information Disease: Have Cults created a New Mental
Illness?" by Flo Conway and Jim Siegelman. Science Digest January 1982
    pp86-92]

"A very effective thought control technique could also be worked out from
Scientology, which could be used to make individuals into willing slaves."
    -L Ron Hubbard

[description of the authors' research into the long term effects of
    involvement with various cults]

Two groups in particular showed signs of inflicting the most
severe physical, mental and emotional harm on their members: the Hare
Krishna and the Church of Scientology. Among all groups, Krishna and
Scientology tied with the Unification Church in reports of physical
deprivation. Their members reported getting the least sleep per night and
having the most deficient daily diet.
    ...
The rituals of the Church of Scientology bear little resemblance
to those of any other cult. With its extensive program of "training
regimens" and expensive "auditing" counseling, Scientology operates
successfully as both religion and mass-marketed therapy. According to
those who responded to our survey, however, Scientology's may be the most
debilitating set of rituals of any cult in America. Onetime Scientologists
who answered our questionnaire reported that it took them, on the average,
more than two years (26 months) before they felt fully rehabilitated- more
than *twice* the time of those from other major cults [Hare Krishna: 11.1
months, Divine Light Mission: 12.3 months].

Moreover, former Scientologists surpassed all others in reported
incidents of physical punishment while in the group (35 percent) and, upon
departure, they claimed the highest rates of sexual dysfunction (22
percent), violent outbursts (28 percent) [average is 14 percent],
hallucinations and delusions (28 percent) [average is also 14 percent] and
suicidal or self-destructive tendencies (44 percent) [average is 21%]. On
average, former Scientologists surveyed reported more than *twice* the
combined negative effects of all the other cult groups.

Ironically, although claiming the most severe long-term effects,
former Scientologists surveyed reported the *lowest* total of hours
per week spent in ritual and indoctrination. This apparent discrepancy
seems to support opinions we have expressed earlier that, in combination,
Scientology's training regimens and "auditing" counseling sessions
(conducted on an E-meter, a kind of crude lie detector) may have an
intensifying and compounding effect on the nervous system that goes beyond
that of simpler cult rituals. And that, *hour for hour, Scientology's
techniques may be more than twice as damaging as those of any other major
cult in America!* In our view, this could be a vital direction for further
research by scientists working in the field of neurophysiology.

"The overall impact? Devastating!" wrote one ex-member. "I still
tend to view the world in Scientological terms: 'Truth is only an
illusion.' 'People are robots.' 'People are basically insane and dangerous.'"
Another was even more bitter: "The only thing I got out of this scam was
deep suicidal depression coinciding with the fear of death within five
years after separation. We were told that ninety percent of all 'refund
    cases' eventually commit suicide."

    "...Among all groups, Krishna and
Scientology tied with the Unification Church in reports of physical
deprivation. Their members reported getting the least sleep per night and
having the most deficient daily diet."

    ".....Scientology's may be the most
debilitating set of rituals of any cult in America......"

Thank you for this very interesting post Ladybird.

Another way to express this is, psycological and emotional hi-jacking or entrapment, for the purpose of human manipulation and exploitation.

Here is some more interesting information about "Black Dianetics" and the cults use of it against disaffected members and "enemies":

Please note that Ken Ogger (aka The Pilot) committed suicide in a very unexplainable fashion after writing the above.

This is an excerpt from PDC #20 about Black Dianetics with comparison notes about alterations made to the "new" PDC #20 by David Miscavige.

I wouldn't put it passed these guys to do stuff like that. Very sinister indeed, but not surprising.

    Interesting, albeit disturbing, article LB

Nobody in the SO ever hugged me. Well, there were two:

This one girl did, but she was actually trying to go out-2D and I didn't take the bait. She got herself kicked out a couple of weeks later (with someone else).

June hugged me once, but now she's decided to route out.

    Those remaining never did.

    That's a dark pattern.

As one who has never been a member and has studied scn for a while I've come to the realization that LRH was a severely paranoid individual. The fact that he always blamed big pharma and psychs, was always on the offensive, and felt like the world was out to get him to the point of always attacking anyone that didn't agree with his thinking made him a very dangerous man.
What is even more scary is the fact that he made his mind think so easy to digest to so many people and actually figured out how to manipulate them so fast that people never realized he was doing it. He preyed on people that really wanted a better planet and were ready to stand up and help to obtain this goal. The people he enlisted gave up so much time, energy, money, personal goals, money...you name it - they gave. The total mind-phuk is enough to make even the sanest of people want to do things to KSW. He made everyone just as paranoid as he was and in doing so people lost their will to show or even have their own emotions. They were told they were being selfish for feeling. Bee Sting was spot on in her description IMO.

    PTRS - Condition

Psychological Thought Reform Syndrome a self imposed condition of disassociation from common emotions such as empathy or sympathy in the form of displaying an unemotional response or “cold heartless” in affected situations, typically as the result of oppressive acts by a perpetrator aimed at inferring and manipulation (usually over an extensive period of time), gaining full emotional, psychological and physical control rendering its victim powerless to maintain any self natural instincts or ability of rational thought processing or self determinism over his or her own decisions indifferent from the perpetrator’s own points of views thus rendering its victim powerless by forcing its victim into submission through means of depravation or denial of basic humans needs such as sleep, proper nourishments, medical care coupled with the enforcement of physical hard labor and various forms of isolation eventually leaving the victim dysfunctional in any other environment except for the one created by the perpetrator.

Those victims tend disconnect any emotions or reaction to any situations in a robotic or matter-of-fact like manner most likely self imposed, as the victim often find themselves to believe the only useful life in existence is the one portrayed by its perpetrator and therefore deny or suppress prior thought processing or experiences or self existence as invalid, false or untrue.

For months I've been trying to put my finger on exactly what LRH's mind control was besides the brainwashing. His work was an uninstall/ reinstall! What a truly twisted individual :omg:

Absolutely Markus! I agree with you and thanks for the uplifting videos. For the past 5 years I've lived my life through ballroom dancing. In ballroom dancing the man is the frame and the woman is the picture and he shows her off. I love the aesthetics and here are a couple of my favorite videos:

Ah..... what woman wouldn't want to be so graciously swept around the ballroom floor... Love the videos. Just love it.

But I have to say as much as I'd be dreaming of being so placed upon clouds I still love my independece (speaking as a woman.) If I feel like I want to pick up that power tool and build my self a deck or, plaster those walls, or put my ax splitting a piece of wood - I will!

But, if I want to slip into a beautiful evening gown and be led by gentle hands ... (sigh!)

You're right! Scientology creates cold and heartless people because the gala events they put on are not as nearly as beautiful as these videos.

    Thank you for posting.

Bee Sting, I'm glad you loved the videos! Yes, I definitely understand your love of independence. I do treasure my independence very much too.

I couldn't spend too much time on my dancing while I was on lines and working like mad to get the $ for my next action on the Bridge.

Since I left the church a year ago, I've been able to spend all the time I want with my ballroom dance partner, entering competitions and wearing the evening gowns and gliding across the floor. Aesthetics (sigh!)

Well, that is very smart, Smartone! Keep dancing.

Life is too short not to enjoy it and who gives a hoot about the next life time? It's now or never. Maybe next life Xenu can pick up a nice tango or or two perhaps a waltz? Nah, ...

Is'nt it grand to be able to be free and do what you love? I can't dance but is it sure lovely watching that grace and beauty.

    Honey Love,
