We recently had the opportunity to play Watch Dogs 2, and this time (instead of focusing on the free-play elements of the game like last time), we decided to tackle some of the game's story missions. Light spoilers abound from here on out.

We had the opportunity to play the game from the very start until about four hours in, and in that time we had full access to the early part of the story. The story missions are good fun - and incredibly varied - so we thought we'd show you how to tackle one of the earliest missions the game has on offer: taking down the New Dawn cult.

So in the video below, we take on a church that's suspiciously similar to the Church of Scientology, and go and 'audit' a famous action actor called Jimmy Siska. Check out our gameplay video below:

Mobile and Apps: 'Watch Dogs 2': Church Of Scientology, Tom Cruise Parody In Game's Side Mission?

Ubisoft may be inviting a bit of controversy with its upcoming game "Watch Dogs 2," especially from the Church of Scientology.

According to Polygon, the upcoming game will feature tons of side missions, and in one of these missions, protagonist Marcus Holloway is tasked to infiltrate an organization that closely resembles the Church of Scientology.

Marcus will also be speaking with one character within the organization which suspiciously sounds like one of the church's high profile members, "Mission Impossible" actor Tom Cruise.

In the video, Marcus and his Dedsec crew talk about fictional religious sect New Dawn taking down one of their videos, and Marcus would have to pretend to audit Jimmy Siska, New Dawn's high profile spokesperson.

During an interview with VentureBeat, Ubisoft's content director and "hacking consultant" Thomas Geffroyd talked about fictionalizing corporation names to be used in the game.

"I think it'll be pretty clear to everyone who we're emulating," Geffroyd said. "Some of the names will ring a bell."

Speaking about emulating the religious sect, Geffroyd said, "The False Prophets would be an example. It's inspired by Project Chanology, which was the first major Anonymous operation. It was a way to give them a little wink. But I promise you we have some pretty funky stuff in there."

Watch Dogs 2 features a wide variety of side missions, and it’s not scared to dip into the world of pop culture for some easy hits.

One mission asks the player to go undercover in an organization that has a striking resemblance to the church of Scientology in order to interview a character who looks and sounds quite a bit like Tom Cruise ... who happens to be one of Scientology’s most famous adherents.

The Watch Dogs 2 version of Tom Cruise is expecting to be audited, which is a real thing in Scientology, although the in-game interaction is rather short. Marcus also doesn’t that worried about staying in-character after he gets the information he needs.

Video game Watch Dogs 2 inspired by Anonymous's war on Scientology.

In the main missions there’s New Dawn - a huge religious sect that recruits from the rich and famous, asks for a percentage of their earnings and locks its secret religious teachings behind a paywall. One quest sees you rescue an actor who’s being held in one of the sect’s lodges against their will. When you find them, they’re being beamed propaganda filled with subliminal imagery from a TV set.

The real-life parallel happened in 2008, when the Church of Scientology began removing traces of a Tom Cruise interview from across the web. Anonymous saw this as a type of censorship and started an operation they called ‘Project Chanology’, which saw Scientology websites suffer a range of DDoS attacks, prank calls and black faxes - full page printouts of nothing but black ink. These actions led to the church labelling Anonymous as cyber-terrorists perpetrating religious hate crimes.

”It was a fuzzy inspiration for us, saying ‘okay, what if Dedsec hacked after a cult of a sect that was exploiting people?’,” Guay explains. “It was a form of establishment that was interesting for us to expose.”

    That looks fun.

    I won at $cientology in GTA 5.

It took a few tries but I stole a bunch of money AND one of their cute blue cars.

The funny/creepy part was just HOW excited I got about it, making off with that trunk full of cash.

GTA has a TC character and a JT character.
The money was supposed to be put on a plane JT was flying, but instead that plane ended up chasing me and shooting at me through the streets of L.A. Haha.
