I don't think it is a case of taking sides, although I must admit a certain admiration for those who are doing something about the CofS.

Their power is not necessarily a good thing as it means they can bring any internet presence down that they take a dislike to. They seem able to act as judge and jury.

But in this case ..... Well the CofS have "pulled it in" :roflmao: and their downfall is long overdue. :coolwink:

LRH laid the foundations for this with his creation of SPs. The CofS can hardly complain if their SPs are using the CofS' own tactics back on them to restrict their communication.

Yep - they've "pulled it in"! :dieslaughing:

It is quite astounding to me the support Anon is receiving against the church on message boards and by commentors on web pages that contain news stories about this.

NO ONE is sticking up for the Church. EVERYONE is against Scientology in this.

    And that's not a generalization!

I don't know what to say about it, myself.

At moments I have feelings of gleeful enthusiasm. At others I have feelings that check the first ones and I remind myself this is not good,, and to be a grown up and to wipe that smile off of my face.

    I am totally ambi-valent.

I know what you mean. maybe 'though it was always going to be like this? Not us, largely impotent, ex-Scns or some harmed individual taking the CofS down in the courts or the press, but a bunch of cyber-terrorists who rage against CofS manipulation! It's like a Sci-fi story isn't it?

Remember, Ron's "church" is a black magic creation. He even conjured up his own demons and called them SPs. Now Ron's Black Magic demons are overwhelming his magic spell and freeing his hypnotised slaves. :pixiedust:

The CofS must be having a :hissyfit:

I've got a serious question. How credible are these guys ("Anonymous")? What exactly does it mean when they say they have taken on the CofS and won't rest until the CofS has been dismantled?

I mean, it's not like Alanzo saying he is taking them on in a fight to the death. These guys have publicly declared a fight to the death, and they're not exactly easy to fight back against in the real world using the CofS's usual ammunition of Legal and dirty tricks.

The only other weapon the CofS has against them is PR.

    Heh. :)

Maybe this will bring Rinder out of "retirement".

He'll run into a phone booth and emerge with a big S and double triangles on his bulging chest, fly back to Gold to make it all right again.

Davey will swish his frilly skirt and swoon that Mike has come back to save them all.

Naw. More like everyone will just finally leave, realizing that ANYTHING, even being a wog, is better than this.

Hubbard wasn’t a visionary. He never envisioned free speech or the evolution of the internet! He could hide but is real legacy can't.

Scientology wasn't designed from the onset to be exposed in the light of day! It was designed to bait folks in through word of mouth.

This sounds like a GEICO Car insurance commercial where the announcer guy says, “this time payback is for real”!

Thing are getting more and more interesting day by day!

Well, I don't know anything about these guys except what I saw on YouTube. They hacked a guy's MySpace account and put up gay porn on his page. His girlfriend broke up with him because she thought he was gay.

Someone takes anonymous stock video and puts blurred voice recordings over it. Someone else puts out denial of service attacks on websites.

This plays right into the CofS's paranoia, though. They might very well go "9/11" on everyone's ass and invade countries and shit. They may sue everyone they can think of, hire tons of PIs, and start a campaign of force and harassment like they have never done before.

And then watch the footbullets fly!!

    WHO'S GOT THAT POPCORN???

I looked up 4chan on Wikipedia.

Their main bulletin board has had over 50,000,000 posts to it.

    That's a lot of people.

If the CofS attack that board, or its owner, who at least are targets in the real world, boy oh boy. It would probably be like attacking Slashdot.

And they just might do it too. It would be on-policy, wouldn't it?

    Pass the popcorn, Alanzo. :)

I wonder how many of them there are? How valid is it for one person to speak on their behalf? Is it like one Freezoner trying to speak on behalf of the Freezone, as if it were some single organization?

Assuming there is some actual muscle and staying power behind the words, it will get quite interesting when they get some help from ex-Incomm people and people like that.

Here's an interesting viewpoint from Jeff Jacobsen via ARS:

[This is assuming that there really is a group of netizens who've
decided to take on Scientology through harassment, DOS attacks, and
    dirty tricks]

    Dear Anonymous,

It's understandable that people get upset over the things the
Church of Scientology has done online and off. They harass, sue, play
dirty tricks on people, lie, etc. They tried to shut down a.r.s.
They spam our newsgroup to this day.

So I can see why you'd think damn it, it's time somebody shut them
    down!

I'll just give you my insight for whatever it's worth. I've been a
public critic of Scientology since 1987. I've been on a.r.s. since
1994. My actions are pretty well known, and in fact you can go to
youtube and watch a lot of our protests and such, or go to
lisamcpherson.org and see some more of my activism. Also, I'm older.
    I'm 52. So if it's of any value, here's an old, experienced critic's 2
    cents.

The internet has already taken a big whack out of Scientology. Free
speech has allowed us critics to expose many of the lies and horrible
actions of Co$ for all the world to see. We've protested, right at
their front door. We've been on radio, TV, newspapers, magazines. So
it's not like you have to jump in and reinvent the wheel, or assume
    nobody's been doing anything.

We've been quite successful because of the Golden Rule of the
Internet; Free Speech for Everybody. In fact, whenever Co$ has
attacked our free speech, it has spawned dozens and dozens of new
critics who would not otherwise have cared about this cult. Most of
us, and indeed most netizens, value free speech almost religiously.
So, as I understand it, one of your first methods for dealing with
Scientology is to shut down their web sites. This goes against the
Golden Rule. By silencing them in one format, all you've done is make
a martyr out of the cult. Martyrdom is GOOD for Scientology. It's
something for the members to rally around. It's proof that they're in
the right because they're being persecuted. Externally, it makes some
people ask "why is a church being attacked?" So you've lost me at
    hello.

The weapons we choose are important. Our weapons as critics are
reason, evidence, argument, and free speech. If we "win" [and by win I
mean, Co$ renounces its practices and policies that hurt people], then
we've won the argument over their policies and actions. However, if
YOU win using dirty tricks, harassment, and such, then you still
haven't won over their arguments. You've just pounded them into
    submission. Their arguments stand.

We're supposed to be the good people. They're supposed to be the
bad people. If both sides are being creepy, then the public will just
look on this as a battle between two creepy groups and not be very
interested. If, however, one side is moral, honest, and just, and the
other side STILL beats up on them just for speaking out, there you
have a story. It is this CONTRAST between us and them that is part of
our message. The nicer we are, the better the contrast, the more
easily it is to see which side is the right side.

I'm very confident that we as critics have severely hampered
Scientology. I don't believe our goal is to destroy Scientology as
yours seems to be [here I'd better say, I don't represent anybody but
myself]. Our goal is to get them to stop locking people up until
they're dead, to stop pretending they're doctors, to stop destroying
families. If they want to believe in Xenu, fine. No problem. We can
still debate that, but believing in weird things is no reason for some
    group to fear attack.

If you don't believe my mamby-pamby methods work, consider all the
cases in history where such actions did work; Gandhi, Martin Luther
King, Jr., Vaclav Havel, etc. These people didn't harass. They didn't
pull dirty tricks. They were straightfoward, honest, moral, and they
won. I believe their methods work admirably well on Scientology as
    well.

So my wish for you is that you stop a while, listen to some of us
who've already been out there on the front lines working to expose
Scientology, and reconsider your methods. You seem to be coming onto
the stage presuming that us experienced critics never got anything
done since Scientology still exists. You're quite wrong. I hope
    you'll take time to listen.

    "Message to Scientology"
    in text:

    "Hello, Leaders of Scientology.'

    "We are Anonymous.'

"Over the years, we have been watching you. Your campaigns of misinformation; your suppression of dissent; your litigious nature, all of these things have caught our eye. With the leakage of your latest propaganda video into mainstream circulation, the extent of your malign influence over those who have come to trust you as leaders, has been made clear to us. Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed.'

"For the good of your followers, for the good of mankind-- and for our own enjoyment--we shall proceed to expel you from the Internet and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form. We recognize you as serious opponents, and do not expect our campaign to be completed in a short time frame. However, you will not prevail forever against the angry masses of the body politic. Your choice of methods, your hypocrisy, and the general artlessness of your organization have sounded its death knell.'

"You have no where to hide. Because we are everywhere. You will find no recourse in attack. Because for each of us that falls, ten more will take his place.'

"We are cognizant of the many who may decry our methods as parallel to those of the Church of Scientology. Those who espouse the obvious truth that your organization will use the actions of Anonymous as an example of the persecution of what you have for so long warned your followers. This is acceptable to Anonymous. In fact it is encouraged.'

    "We are your SPs.'

"Over time, as we begin to merge our pulse with that of your "Church", the suppression of your followers will become increasingly difficult to maintain. Believers will become aware that salvation needn't come at the expense of their livelihood. They will become aware that the stress and the frustration that they feel is not due to us, but a source much closer to them. Yes, we are SPs. But the sum of suppression we could ever muster is eclipsed by that of your own RTC.'

    "Knowledge is free.'

    "We are Anonymous.'

    "We are Legion.'

    "We do not forgive.'

    "WE DO NOT FORGET.'

    "Expect us. "

And now for something completely different:

    Einstein on Gandhi

I believe that Gandhi's views were the most enlightened of all the political men in our time.

We should strive to do things in his spirit: not to use violence in fighting for our cause, but by non-participation in anything you believe is evil.

This is a reflection of my views. After, Gandhi's methods expelled the powerful British Empire from India, and gained its independence.

Why would anyone think that Gandhi's methods should NOT be used against the Church of Scientology?

Gandhi KICKED ASS in a white diaper!
