Greetings All!

Crossposted highlights from a new/active project I finally unleashed on the hivemind last week:
http://forums.whyweprotest.net/threads/scientology-religiosity-research-packets-dox.93988/

This series of fair use e-publications is for the sole purpose of referring people too, when the awkward question of "Is Scientology a Religion?" arises. Also - harpoon ammo... for reaching out to community leaders, religion studies majors and other bible thumpers who express an interest in seriously questioning the religious nature of Scientology.

AnonLover on WWP said:
Lots more introductory details included on the WWP thread above, as well as in the Materials Outline document (See Project Introduction & Publication Notes)

I've been working on harvesting leaks & compiling these publications for approximately 90 days. So far I got the first of at least 9 volumes released, with the others slated to follow w/ a new release every 2-3 weeks from now until the end of this year.

Enjoy!

Volume I Summary said:
This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? publication series has been compiled to serve as the introductory module for a larger body of materials, and covers some of the basic principles of Scientology when viewed from the perspective of being classified as a new religious movement. The enclosed subject matter reveals the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and other promotional material from the Church of Scientology on common aspects of “salvation” that is adhered to by the more traditional faiths:

  • The existence of God,
  • The role of heaven and hell, and
  • The eternal hope of mankind in accordance with the Scientology tenets of faith.

Sections v1.01.001 through v1.01.005 provides a brief overview of how the major principles of the Scientology system of spiritual beliefs are commonly defined to the outside world and perceived internally. Subsection 006 covers a sampling of widely touted quotations from Scientology’s ideology that are widely held to be controversial, with additional passage segments to follow in later volumes of this series.

Sections v1.01.007 through v1.01.010 provides a look at the Scientology interpretation of heaven and hell, with insights into their methodologies for overcoming the limitations of human existence as defined within strictly internal-usage materials. While subsection 011 exposes a more detailed explanation of Scientology doctrines as portrayed to the general public.

Sections v1.01.012 through v1.01.018 offers a further look at the Scientology approach to religious salvation through the teachings and alternative counseling techniques of L. Ron Hubbard, which are organized into a dual path of training and psychotherapy processes known as “The Bridge.”

This volume concludes with a vintage statement of what Scientology disciples aim to achieve with their spiritual progress up “The Bridge” in section v1.01.019. Followed by a return to the modern day reality of how the public typically perceives the opposing claims of Hubbard’s doctrines being both a science and a religion through the personal experience of an investigative journalist.

Proper citations for all the source materials reprinted within this publication for educational purposes are indexed in the back matter under the “List of Scientology Illustrations” section. Additional recommended references for each subsection of the v1.01 materials is also included under the “Further Reading” section for a progressive continuation of studies on the topics covered herein.

Feedback, suggestions, discrepancies & other input on how to make this publication better in later editions is welcome here, or in the original WWP project thread where we are keeping opinions/debate on the actual materials & subject matter separate from ongoing compilation & publication efforts.

And altho I personally dont have an opinion/debate or topical angle that I care to discuss my own views at this time (until the series is complete)... I'm interested to see what the knowledgeable regulars over here on ESMB have to say. So TIA for your comments & feedback!!

WOW! Bloody wonderful.

I particularly like the way you took the time and care to put in clear type the text of imaged old original docs that, being somewhat ancient, were a little faint and hard to read because of the original red stencil ink having faded.

A wonderful presentation AL! You have some real treasures in there.

bump for latest project update...

Scientology Religiosity? Research Volume I:
Updated 2nd edition (version v1.22Oct2011) released

Fileshare: http://www.mediafire.com/?onu4di1ef3bzmls

Compilation Changes:
Section v1.01 expanded and majorly reorganized. Subsections 007 & 016 added, 003 materials replaced, 009 extended and Volume Summary adjusted accordingly.

Document Description:
Scientology Religiosity? Vol I - God, Heaven, Hell & The Hope of Mankind :: This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? publication series has been compiled to serve as the introductory module for a larger body of materials, and covers some of the basic principles of Scientology when viewed from the perspective of being classified as a new religious movement. The enclosed subject matter reveals the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and other promotional material from the Church of Scientology on common aspects of “salvation” that is adhered to by the more traditional faiths.

Usage Notes:
The online scribd version clobbers some of the hyperlinks in the front & back matter sections, and lacks the advantage of the bookmarks pane setup for ease of navigation in a PDF reader. So the downloaded version in your local PDF reader is strongly recommended for serious use as a study/reference guide.

Next up... The Materials Index for this project will be updated soonly, for logging all the stuff recently gathered & initial release of Volume II following shortly thereafter.

Meanwhile, there's been other work-in-progress stuff brewing on the WWP project thread starting here:

Enjoy!

It took me more than a year, but I FINALLY got the next volume in my series of research catalogs for questioning Scientology's religiosity compiled and published. While this is the midpoint in my series, it's actually the most significant since Scientology beliefs fit into the category of New Age Gnosticism as far as comparative religious studies go. And the monster size of this volume, as well as the time it took me to compile it, reflects that.

Fileshare: https://hotfile.com/dl/226087273/0a885b6/ScientologyReligiosity-v5-07Jun2013.pdf.html

Synopsis: This volume of the Scientology Religiosity? Series of research publications has been compiled as the second intermediate module for the middle segment in a larger body of materials. These volumes are assembled for educational purposes with an aim for supporting additional review on basic points of comparison between Scientology principles of faith and the common beliefs of other major religions. The enclosed subject matter explores the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard and the doctrines of the Church of Scientology relevant to their system of alternative mental health therapy techniques that they declare are spiritual in nature. These beliefs form the basis of what is labeled as an “Applied Religious Philosophy” that follows a dualistic path of enlightenment defined as “The Bridge to Total Freedom” as illustrated in the last volume of this series. This path to enlightenment requires both training and practical application of auditing techniques that have been prescribed by Hubbard for the purpose of "making the able more able." Additionally, this volume also introduces other unusual indoctrination standards and mechanisms that are seen as essential tools adherents must apply in their lives as a means of achieving a form of salvation that is described as “knowing how to know.”

Full set of all the volumes in this series released so far: http://hotfile.com/dl/226329005/d33599b/ScientologyReligiosity-Q2-2013editions.zip.html

My new home for ongoing efforts on this project has shifted over to RFTTP forums where they have a dedicated faith-based subforum that makes for a nice comfy fit for what I'm doing in these fair use research publications. So for more details on this latest release and more discussion of related stuff I'm working on, please see:

Bump for project updates!

I had accidentally missed crossposting the release of Vol VI last summer from RFTTP:
http://forum.reachingforthetippingpoint.net/index.php/topic,7973.msg32426.html#msg32426

Scientology Religiosity? Volume VI

See the RFTTP link for synopsis and major highlights featured in Vol6. I also did some more copyediting in my Tech Dictionary terminology comparison document to correspond with that release: http://www.scribd.com/doc/136449275/Scientology-Tech-Dictionary-Definition-Comparisons

Additionally, as I explained on the other thread at the time, the thrust of my project changed while working on the Vol6 compilation. I decide to shift a major from a comparative NRM study to a propaganda study. And after spending approx. 6 months studying propaganda techniques, I am truly floored at how prevalent they are in ALL of Scientology's teachings. It's almost like Hubbard was channeling Joseph Goebbels and the saturation of propaganda techniques was built up over time in such thick layers it's no wonder the persuasion bubble is so hard to break free from. As the say, "what has been seen cannot be unseen" and that truly applies to my efforts of revisiting all my research catalog publications and looking at things through the lens of identifying common propaganda techniques as they apply to spinning logical fallacies. And Goebbels said it best in regards to his responsibilities as the chancellor of Nazi office of propaganda...

Goebbels1.jpg

More to come on the propaganda angle later, after I finish the remaining volumes in the series, and start writing up the findings of my independent study in essay form.

So after regrouping from ^^That major gear shift in my project, I finally got the next volume released in January 2014 (see below), and spent the last month re-doing the publication templates and released volumes to reflect the new "propaganda" theme in the front/back matter pages.

Scientology Religiosity? Volume VII (NEW)

See the RFTTP link above for the synopsis and major highlights featured in this volume. Of particular interest to ESMB'rs will likely be the last item in Subsection v7.01.016 where Nancy Many graciously allowed me to excerpt a lengthy portion of the "Messiah Project" chapter of her book starting on page 262 in my Vol7 publication. (Somewhere up here is a thread asking if there was any further info available on Hubbard's Messiah Project aside from Nancy's book and Hugh Urban's summary of that same material. Since nothing further every came out in the public domain on this effort, Nancy agreed with me that he first hand account of the matter was due to be made public. And now it is.)

The whole series of research catalog publications as a collection is available here:
Scribd: http://www.scribd.com/collections/3084764/Scientology-Religiosity-Series
Fileshares: https://mega.co.nz/#F!I18kkDaR!B-ZNRhZ_qtxtth_bEaoFLQ

Moving on, here's what lies ahead in this project (from my most recent post on the RFTTP thread):
What's next: Since this is the final volume dealing with Eastern Beliefs comparison, the hard parts are done. The remaining three volumes center around various forms of miscellaneous supernatural woo, fringe history and murdered mythology. I hope to crank those publications out one per month over the next three months, and then get down to real business of writing academic quality essays & publishing about my findings from these past few years of independent research.

My game plan for the writing phase of this project is as follows. I also hope to develop a series of propaganda debunking essays that tears into all hot air fallacies Scientology bases their so-called "applied philosophy" on. I've been doing a fairly significant amount of study and research into propaganda techniques, and I have crafted the following matrix as an outline of the all of the commonly found tactics that Hubbard used extensively in his lectures and publications.

Propaganda Identification Rubric: TOP 100 Techniques Found in Scientology Doctrine (FINAL DRAFT)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9hwLoP07dRxdDA0RTVraG9RU1E/edit?usp=sharing

So my series of essays for my propaganda study will start out with 1 or 2 opening articles on basic critical thinking, logic/reasoning skills and why those skills are so important for people who exited the cult. Chris Shelton, former Sea Org member who has been featured in Karen's interview video series and on the X-Women internet radio show, has graciously agreed to collaborate with me on the opening segments. Our co-authored article(s) will then serve as the backgrounder info for my series of propaganda essays where I will run through the 100 technique indexed in the above rubric, featuring a short list of related techniques in a given article, and show multiple examples from over decades taken from the materials in my research catalog publications and elsewhere.

The end result will likely be in 1-2 dozen academic-style articles that makes the argument that Scientology's religiosity claims is ALL based on propaganda in a big way. I expect publish this series in 2 places: As web2.0 media infused version on my HubPages profile. And as a plain text document on my Academia.edu profile where I have myself setup under a "independent researcher" smack dab in the middle of the new sandbox for apologists. (Who have been having a grand ol' time slapping up all their written works that were never published in peer-reviewed journal. So WTH - if they can do it, then dagnabbit so can I).

for my own part at the beginning of my personal examination of this "applied religious philosophy" i thought it was a no-brainer that it qualifies as a religion and have never seen any significant challenge to this verdict
