Jeff Kovac was the king of regs

Jeff kovac was the king of regs.I learned so must from. he is the quintesstial
used car salesman. He had great comm skills and always talked to you and never down to you. I remember sitting in his office with him hatting me on reggin.
He show me how to take any piece of tech and use it in reg cycle. But the one tech he used alot went like this. Guy comes into office to be regged. If jeff felt he was sitting on a withhold he would tell the guy that before scn his life was fucked up and weave an anodotel account of how his was addicted to herion gave hand jobs for crack( crack was not around then south park reference)in other words he would make up the most fucked up shit. then ask the guy to be regged what have you done. well after listin to jeff spout off some crazy shit
the guy would give up all kinds of personal info.
as far as regs go jeff would do some pretty amazing reg cycles

Hi Programmer guy,

I remember many of the things you are talking about.
I live in Corona now. I do see the old mission a lot from the outside. Bent took me and Mary Freeman to dinner in July at the mission Inn restaurant.
Mary was staying at my house for a few days in July and asked me to take her to see Bent, this is how the dinner came about.

I think the way you have painted Bent is correct.

I really didn't have that much contact with the Riverside mission though because I traveled so much.

That was nice that Bent was willing to do that for Mary. Bent is a pretty good guy.

Muhammad,

IMO, whatever hard regging that happened in the past should be forgiven as Bent left SCN way back and wrote a scathing exposé on SCN in his book.

Personaly I thought bent was a nice guy.he was very easy person to get along with and was a pretty smart guy and I hold no grudge for him. But that aside I was just stating my viewpoint of my time on staff and my expriences. I enjoyed staff made lots of friends and had a good time in general. But having staff making 30 dollars a week get loan for services that should of been part of their contract is quite predatory and out ethics.I was on staff about 4.5 year and had to pay for every course I did except for a dianetic internship at c.c. and all my auditing. bent knew about staff getting loans to jack up G.I. and didn't do anything to stop it because it was good for the bottom line. Steve Roshchild was sending Don White around the country to usaf credit unions to get loans for the bridge , Don was on staff, until the FBI arrested him. bent knew about these things and did nothing.Why did bent wait to write this book after the cos screwed him and not before. But its all cool we can vent our viewpoints and opinions
No it wasn't wendy i remember her it was another girl she was public.

It is interesting info. I am not doubting what you have had to say about the regging.

Yeah... I only made a few bucks per week. But, in my case, I was sent to ASHO for 2 courses and the mission/Bent payed for it. I had no loans on it.

My understanding, even at the time I was on staff, was that the credit union was created mainly for the purpose of people getting easy loans for services.

That's weird because Steve was in Div4 and not in Div2 nor Div6. (This doesn't mean that I don't believe you.)

IMO, because that was his wake-up call. BTW, he put himself at great risk in writing that book.

I think that a lot of stuff that you have mentioned happened after I left.

When I left (if I remember correctly):

Steve was a course sup;
Rodney was a course sup;
Deb Butler was the head of the Comm Course;
Bill Butler was a reg;
Jim Hamre was a reg;
Rene Walker was a reg for the Comm Course;
Frank Walker ran Div6;
Robin Kaufman was over the sups on (I think) HQS;
Greg Kaufman was an EO (I think);
Diane Grenier was Qual Sec;
Marty Prince also in Qual;
Dave Grenier was in Div6;
Corky Shortridge was an examiner;
Tim Shortridge was over the credit union (or maybe had moved over to Div2 after that);
Joe Yazbeck was the intro lecturer.

That's a few that I remember, off hand. I could probably remember a few more if I thought about this some more.

:)

I was involved in the Riverside Scientology Mission in the 1970s. I was recruited on a college campus.

I attended the intro lecture. This was before Joe Yazbeck was the lecturer. I don't remember his name BUT some people remarked at how much the guy resembled LRH in his facial features. Anyway, he eventually discussed what TRs were about (although he didn't call them that... for newbies). Frank Walker was there too... talking to people (raw meat).

I signed up for the Comm Course while I was still in college. At that time Jim Hamre and Joanie Mongello (wife of the deputy ED, Bobby) were the Comm Course sups in an old house before the move to the YMCA building (I posted the YMCA building pics on OCMB, should I post them here also?). Once in awhile Rebecca Dickson and Susan Green would sup also. (Yeah... we screamed at an ashtray outside the building.)

After the Comm Course, Super Literate, and Life Repair... I joined staff.
(BTW, Jeff Kovak was my reg during all this. No one else could reg me but Jeff because I liked him.)

The conditions of my joining staff were that I would get auditing up through Grade IV. Ha. That never happened! After I joined staff THIS was quickly changed to training up through Level IV. I just accepted this (and I was young and naive) as the greatest good etc.

Meanwhile I was put on Div6 as a disseminator (What? I was being trained as an auditor... wasn't I?). I didn't like it.

More later...

Screaming at an ashtray - oh yes. Me too, at a different mission. Outside in an alley behind the mission. Gawd, it was so embarrassing. And I wasn't even drilling, just trying to clear out some clutter.

:clap: :clap: :laugh: :laugh:

Stand UP! (lousy stinking ashtray)
Sit Down! (I have to move the d**n thing)
Stand UP! (every time!)
Sit Down! (Get on that chair!)
Stand UP! (I said get off the chair!)
Sit Down! (forget what I just said, get on the chair)
Stand UP! (I just cannot wait for more auditing.. Sigh)
Sit Down! (When I am OT3 then I will not have to touch it. :happydance: )

Before I started into Scientology, I would walk past the building and hear the yelling from a block away. It made me want to call the police. The drill was being done inside the big gym in the back which had high windows that were open. Sometimes it was 2 or 3 voices. It was a Mystery Sandwich, and scary at the same time. :duh:
That was before I was injured and someone stepped on my ruin at the right time.

Method of entrapment:
Locate a sad looking person, become interested in their sadness, locate their ruin, introduce the mystery sandwich, step on their ruin, step harder if they do not cave, let them know you have the ladder that lets them get out of the hole.... show them the first toll booth on the ladder.

At least you guys did it in the gym.
Before the move to the YMCA building, we did it open OUTSIDE... in a neighborhood.
Just imagine that for a moment. :D

Whle I was on course at ASHO for HPCSC I stayed at The Manor (this is now Celebrity Center in L.A.). I shared a room on the 2nd floor. There was a shuttle van to take people from one place to another. I took the van to and from The Manor and ASHO. There were other stops along the way - like L.A. Org, old Celebrity Center, AO.

One of my room mates turned out to be the ex-husband of a lady on staff at the Riverside Mission. What a small world we live in! He played guitar. (I still remember when he played "Rocky Raccoon" in that room in the evening after we were all done with class or auditing.)

Surprisingly, among others, I met a few people at The Manor that were gay and/or bi-sexual. I only mention this because you might find this interesting given what Hubbard had to say about this. (No, I am not gay.)

I would get to ASHO and buy a donut from a vending machine in a small area between the course rooms.

The examiners were at card tables out in the open (i.e. not in private rooms). I don't know why this was so. I was surprised. Maybe this was a temporary thing because of renovations? I don't know.

Sometimes, before class started, I would go out back and peek at the S.O. muster that happened every morning. It was very military-like with staff in uniform and standing in rows. (We never did this at the Riverside Mission.)

Getting through the HPCSC course materials was easy. However, the internship was tough. There is a big difference between reading about it and actually doing it. But this is also the way it is in any practice... even outside Scientology.

Before internship, while I was on course, I attended both Day and Foundation to get through the course quicker. Once, after course, a tape by LRH was played... during this he mentioned his "encounter" with a mile-high being. (At that time I was amazed BUT now I think that it is nonsense.)

OMG! I was there when a guy played "rocky raccoon"!

Most of the names you mentioned ring a bell, but it was many, many moons ago, and only for a few months, AND I was just the Night Watchman, and was off duty during the normal business day at the Riverside Mission, so I didn't spend that much time with them. Usually just at night on course.

Do you remember the janitor? Eric Beocher (not sure of the spelling) He was a tall, dark haired guy who was kinda twitchy. I went rock climbing with him.

I was at The Manor in L.A. when I heard that... in our room.You are talking about the Riverside Mission.

The only persons I can remember who might have played that tune at the Riverside Mission would have been Jim Hamre or Brad (Brad also liked "The Dirt Brown Cowboy" album).

Yeah, I barely remember Eric.
I saw him once more while shopping at the Tyler Mall (now "The Galleria") awhile after I had left the mission. He didn't recognize me and we didn't speak.:)

Good grief, that's freaky, I think I saw him there once, too. I spoke to him briefly, though.

Bent's mission was a fun place back then. Sometimes, anyway.

Do you remember a pet rat named 'pinky' and a security guard that walked around with it on his shoulder? Round, gold wire frame glasses? The security guard, not the rat.

There were no security guards when I was at the mission.

What were the reasons for the security guard? (Just curious.)

Hell, I don't know. It wasn't like I got a hat folder handed to me. I just stayed there all night watching the place. Some very weird shit happened, too.
