Hey guys, (welcome to the board R/S) isn't it hilarious how each of us were standing there clapping, looking around at all the others clapping, thinking "what a load of BS" and probably giving a reassuring smile to the guy next to us while he's thinking and doing the same thing?

uh yeah hilarious....in an amazingly pathetic and absurd sort of way....

Hi again, R/S. Not to be a nudge or anything, but now you have a second request for this story. :begging:

Oh, and also I'm curious about your answer to this question:

Those hip-hip-hoorays made me feel soooo strange and out of place, I think they are one of the top reasons I left. I totally understand.

Hello HappyGirl,

Regarding Axiom's "If you really feel that the CoS is insane and squirrel, don't you have a responsibility to tell your friends who are still in?". Absolutely! I've made my position known to at least 17 practicing Scientologists who I consider friends and it took YEARS. But remember the purpose is to get an understanding otherwise why say anything. I've lost touch with so many fine people because they quit or were declared. I did not disconnect from them; they disconnected from me to avoid causing problems with my progress in Scn. Every person is different so I considered each and took the actions I felt best for that circumstance. When I think back on it, the logistics were complicated though I didn't notice it at the time. With some of these friends I knew I could talk them about anything and there would be no problem. With one couple who are especially close I took several years to get my opinions expressed and they are now out because of it. 2 of the 17 are still practicing and my opinions have no effect on them or the e-meter for that matter. They are New OT V and New OT VII and remain very close friends. 6 are now ex-scientologists and the rest are in good standing only because they have friends and family in Scn so still have work to do. I have 2 more friends who are practicing scientologists that I will be speaking with in the next few weeks. Unfortunately I do not see a good outcome here and that is too bad. As far as I know I'm in good standing but expect that to end when I talk to this last pair of buds. I couldn't care less about the declare but I'll miss the friendships.

Along these same lines I have a couple of questions for Ex-Scientologists who have money on account: Isn't money on account a form of supporting corporate Scientology? If so, don't you have a responsibility to get your money refunded?

My wife and I have sizable amounts on account in a couple of Orgs. We've left it there because being declared and losing friends we were working on was not an option. We didn't need the $ and I'm sure there are other rationalizations in there. Now our friends are either out or a declare would have minimal effect on friendships so we've run out of justifications and our next step is refund.

About the incident that woke me up. It's really not a very interesting story and I did not mean to create a mystery. So I'll tell you about it next post.

Thanks for your interest.

R/S - Thanks for answering the question. Wow, you're an inspiration. I started talking to friends but it is hard. I don't want to shake them up, but they won't really get it without shaking them up. It's hard to know what to do. I do want to get my money out, because I don't want to support Scn any more. But I want to talk to my friends while I'm still in "good standing," which I won't be once I ask for my money back.

Also, Flag royally f--ked up my account! I can't request a refund until they fix it.

Thanks, you really inspired me!

Also, you don't have to tell a boring story if you don't want to. But it probably won't be as boring to the rest of us on the board as you think. :)

Well done R/S!

When the dust has settled after the collapse of the CoS, I'm sure your friends will be very grateful that you cared enough about them to tell the truth.

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost contact with so many people, but perhaps by posting here, you can get reconnected?

Very good point. But sometimes the orgs aren't very forthcoming with payment despite it being policy that they must repay it immediately.

But this shouldn't stop us insisting on getting our money back.

Welcome, R/S. :)

Income is effectively spent the week it arrives. Advance payments for services do not sit in a bank account somewhere accruing interest. The money for an org's repayments comes out of current income usually.

My profile says it all. I am a Scientologist in good standing from 1970 through to the present. Though I haven't considered myself a Scientologist for quite some time. For the first half of my involvement I was a devoted but not as fanatical as most Scientologists create themselves to be. My interest was in Tech so I trained through CL VI C/S including all actions and rundowns below Power such as Expanded Dianetics, HRD, internships and so on. I was also a full hatted Qual Sec, Cramming Officer, Course Supervisor and FEBC grad. I was a bonded G.O. auditor/Sec Check Specialist. I've audited and C/Sed many thousands of hours with excellent results. On the Processing side I achieved OT IIIx the old way via the clearing course. I've had my share of ethics trouble. I have been the interested party of one B of I, and three Com Ev's. All of this and more took place during the first half of my involvement with Scientology.

There was a singular incident of long duration I was involved with starting at the local level in 1981 and ending at the Flag Land Base in 1982 that convinced me of 2 things; That I am an S.P. (which I always suspected since the first week of my involvement with SCN). And the organization had gone or always has been completely insane and squirrel. No need to get into the details now but it was then I became a closet ex-Scientologist with a completely new view point.

During the second half of my association with Scientology I pretended to be a member and did what I had to to remain in good standing. I did this because some of the very finest people I know are/were Scientologists and I'm proud to call a few of them my friends. And it was for these people I remained in good status for such a long time. Over time, most of these friends have broken away from the Church one way or another and I am certain the few still in SCN would never dis-connect from me under any circumstances. With my training and experience it was easy to be a semi-active public concentrating on building a normal life and raising a family (2 really great kids that are productive members of society and are not Scientologists).

So, I have no familial or friendship ties to the Church. I'm fully recovered from my experience in Scientology and nor do I carry a vendetta with them which leaves me puzzled why I bothered to join this forum.

I joined Scientology to help others. Maybe it's the idea I can be of help to someone here. Disengaging for SCN is not easy. The longer and deeper you are involved the more there is to shed. It's like peeling away the layers of an onion and when you think there are no more you discover another. But what a relief when they are all gone!

Tell me how I can help.

Have a Fine Holiday Season!
