Yep. Positive that was the case. There were big donations right away with the usual shouting and screaming euphoria that comes of watching someone else toss large sums of money around.

In reading the link, above, the event followed the directions almost to the letter. And, in looking back at other events I've attended over the years they did as well. Interesting, thanks for that.

I'm sure there were a few whales who were holding back until the SP building was opened and they could do their amusement park rundown before donating, but what about next year, when they still haven't been able to play in the SP building because there's no staff to operate the rides

Not local Scientologists as far as I know. It was the aforementioned Gaiman family - David Gaiman (now deceased and father of Neil) and his daughter Lizzy (mother of the aforementioned Alessandro who had the wedding in London org).

I believe you. The Scientology Mob in any case, making a quick buck, no advertising, no free market disposal. The price probably included five years of claiming that Scientology is a religion.

Another case where someone definitely hoped and expected to get a lucrative contract was Steve Brackett, who accidentally by falling off a bridge on the California coast. He had been love-bombed by Nancy Cartwright, and then dropped when he was broke and facing legal problems. This was more like plain fraud, but the contract for the SP Building was dangled in front of his eyes and then given to someone else once they had got his money. The background to his poster as Patron Meritorious Humongous Extrastupiditus was the SPr Building. I often wonder whether his last thoughts were What a Mug I Was! or Farewell, Darling Nancy!

Scientology has eerie parallels to Las Vegas casinos where the High (holy) Rollers are drenched in comps and kitschy bling by management to keep them happy. And cheered on euphorically by small timers watching them "toss large sums of money around" at the gaming tables.

Other similarities. . .

Skimming by mafia management who own the casinos via shell corporations.

Glitzy marketing to make customers think it's a game they can "win" at.

The house always wins.

Differences. . .

Casinos sometimes pay out big jackpots.

Scientology has never had anyone win any of its "total freedom" or "eternity" jackpots.

When you go broke and leave a casino, they don't disconnect your family, sue you and try to get you framed and imprisoned for fake bomb threats.

The last event I attended, about 3 years ago, when somebody donated a big amount (I didn't know at the time they were pre-closed or shills you might say),

I was thinking in my mind, good, maybe we can end this event and go home, and more importantly I was thinking silently this thought -- "yah, maybe I don't have to donate any money if all these fools donate before me". So yah I was clapping. LOL

I never did donate to these IAS events or Ideal Org fund raising. I stayed away for the most part.

Yeah, I never said it, but thought to myself for years that there are internal schemes that haven't seen the light of day.

Wondered when brother Ronnie Miscavige left his exalted INT EXEC post and went into Real Estate if that was a kickback scheme to reap secret commissions for the brothers on the purchase of buildings.

Cynical mind, right? LOL

Not at all. I wonder what perks I could get for buying a property for 10 million in cash? Or getting a cultie installed to sell it to me through a local real estate firm?

The org in Moscow was on the first floor of a fish factory. (Are fish made in factories?) In order to get into the org one had to pass through 2 check points. Trash was stacked up the side of the building where one entered the org. Missions were doing a lot of auditing but would not bring pcs into the org – (editorial note – they may have discovered something was ….. wait for it …… fishy….) Because of the ban on scn materials and they attempt to show it is not a religion, Something Had to Be Done (see? I’m learning to speak scientologese)

IAS covertly purchased and renovated the building. All staff were asked to do a big call in for an unknown event. Everyone was to meet at a hotel 3 metro stops from the new org. 2500 people showed up. Each person was double and triple checked by staff and OSA to make sure they were not KGB. When they arrived at the hotel they were given cards with the address of the new org and told to be there in an hour. All 2500 hopped on the metro and rode over 3 stops to the new building where they held the grand opening in -30F.
Are these numbers for real???? Is any of this true?

....
Thank you Blanky! I'm sure this wasn't easy for you. You are in my thoughts.. And everyone here really appreciates your help!

Because it's not a real church and IMHO, the donations are not true donations, either. Scientology is a business.

IMHO, The big donors (the "whales") are getting something back for it. Something financial. Did you see Tony Ortega's latest blog?
http://tonyortega.org/

Real estate involves a lot of money - commissions to realtors, companies hired for renovations, law firms hired to write contracts - just for starters. COS also pays a 10% "Field Staff Member" (FSM) commission to those that sign up new members. That's 10% on all their services - forever. Unless someone at COS approves paying a different FSM.

I believe most of these whales are actually "investors". They are investing in a network that will send them money in the way of contracts or some other repayment.

Even for scn, this is far too much money for them not to be getting some sort of kickbacks. That's my view, anyway.

I'm sure this is close to the truth. Scientology is about money and real estate. That aspect of the con works very well.

I just posted (45 ITT) the story of Steve Brackett, a builder on a rather modest scale, who donated his all and then some (=> criminal embezzlement) believing he would get the contract to finish the SP Building and when this did not come through he jumped off a bridge at Big Sur. His moment of glory was being photographed with his fiancee Nancy Cartwright and her family.

Sorry for posting this again but I always feel for poor Steve, a nice guy who was playing out of his league.

Y'know, your casino analogy brings to mind the visits to Las Vegas by DM and others of LRH's inner circle. I wonder how much of that was from a love of gambling, versus Las Vegas being a way to launder money (Person A buys a bunch of chips for cash, hands them to B, who goes to the cashier as a successful "winner" in the casino)? Considering how many suitcases worth of cash were kicking around?
